This book has literally changed my life. I am 29 years old and I have suffered with ulcerative colitis since I was about 15. Recently, my symptoms had progressed. I have always refused modern medical treatment for my symptoms, as I do not believe in putting chemicals into my body and risking adverse problems as a result. I have always tried to treat myself holistically and I have done a lot of research on anti-inflammatory diets as a means of lessening my symptoms. I have done okay, but the flare ups would still come and go. Three months ago, my symptoms became worse than they ever have been before. I would wake up in the middle of the night in cold sweats because my abdominal pain was so bad. I would spend hours in the bathroom in the middle of the night, only to have to wake up at 4am and get to work. I would have chosen to continue to manage this on my own; however, the bleeding became so severe that I started to become very worried. My mom passed away from cancer last year, and when you experience life with a cancer patient with whom you love so dearly, you always worry about such things happening to you. I had a colonoscopy (for the millionth time) and started to see a new GI. I told him right off the bat that I was only seeing him to pretty much ensure that I didn’t have cancer, and that I wasn’t going to accept any medication when offered. He told me that I did have severe inflammation with my ulcerative colitis, and he wanted to put me on 10+ pills a day, including a sedative. I went against medical advice and I started to do further research on what I could do to help myself. That is when I came across this book. I can say, 100%, if you or someone that you know or care about is suffering from colitis, crohn’s, or any IBS symptoms, please read this book. When I read the story of Jordan and I learned all that he went through to heal himself, I was so touched by his choice to really give back and help others by creating his line of holistic supplements and products. I have purchased three of his products, Primal Defense being the first. Eating dirt? Jordan spells it out to make life and our food choices in life so simple. He explains how we need to get back to our roots and eat the foods that God intended for us to eat. Not all of this processed junk that we can hardly call food. Our diets are so awful, and I believe that is why we suffer from so many of the medical ailments that we do. This factor is reconfirmed for me after reading this book. I went from a diet that consisted of nothing but baby food (literally…stockpiled organic baby food, and I don’t even have any kids), to being able to introduce many foods into my diet, including produce and sprouted grains. This book covers all of the necessities, as ‘your Maker intended,’ while also explaining the reason and studies that support each claim. I can say without any reservation that this book and the world-wide knowledge that is provided has changed how I live. It’s awful to always live such a reserved life because you don’t know where a bathroom will be, nor do you want to be embarrassed at how much time you spend in the bathroom while out. What’s the point of seeing a baseball game at all if you are going to spend the entire duration of the game in the bathroom? That has been my life for so long, but no more. I am a manager for a medical practice, and even the doctor that I have worked for during the past ten years was so amazed at my results, that she asked me to order her a copy of this book. My flare ups are few and far between for the first time in nearly 15 years. I cannot say enough how grateful I am to Jordan for sharing his experience with us and developing a plan and a new way of life. I am forever in his debt and I appreciate so much having this book as a tool to help to manage my ulcerative colitis.

Before you buy this book, be aware that at least half of it is comprised of promotional writings, testimonies, etc. endorsing products Mr. Rubin's company produces for purchase, the ones which he credits with his own healing. Everything from the soil extracts to the special drinks to the food addiditves -- all are trademarked items, available for purchase. So half of the book feels like a sales pitch (and it's not exactly a clean half, since this runs through the entire book). If this bothers you, I would not recommend the book. The other half -- the parts where there is NO sales pitch -- has some good advice, especially for anyone suffering from IBS or a condition like that. But most of it is the same information you will find from any advocate of natural foods, like Dr. Andrew Weil, the Livestrong website or places like that. So I guess I would say that if you are interested in participating in the same regimen Mr. Rubin did, you are in the right place. If you are looking for changes you can make in your own diet to feel better from what you can purchase in the store or make at home, there are probably better books out there for you.

This book helped change my life. I was told last summer during an emergency room visit (my first in over 25 years) that I had diverticulitis. I was having spells of illness, 101 fever, and felt awful. Was certain something more serious was happening in there. Well thanks to REVIEWS on Amazon, I stumbled across this guy and his books while researching some intestinal health issues I was having . Bought this book, and started reading and applying. And yes, I even sourced my own local goat milk to help heal my gut. Then within weeks, I started feeling much much better than I had in a long time. And then being about 40 pounds overweight for about 10 years now, the weight started dropping off.....and I also picked up the Wheat Belly book (not same author) and applied that too (eliminated ALL wheat, barley, and rye). I'm happy to say I'm feeling GREAT and my belly is now flat once again after having lost 17 pounds in 3 months (not exercising, just food changes!) I didn't do this for the weight loss, I did it to heal my gut. I was so bloated and pregnant looking it was sheer misery just getting up in the morning; all over stomach pain, discomfort, intestinal issues all over the throughout. I'm a health person, so for this to hit, was quite unusual. My body started screaming ENOUGH already! Do yourself or someone you love that is suffering from any type of stomach/intestinal issues like diverticulitis, IBS and more; gift them this book. And his other books called Restoring Your Digestive Health, and Live Beyond Organic. It changed my life. And it will change yours/theirs. Best wishes to you!

Read this book in December 2004, 30 years into ulcerative colitis. Started the recommended diet and in 7 months there was no more signs of the disease. Have stayed on the diet since and living a fairly healthy life. Have recommended the book to many friends and have purchased many and given them to people who had bowel problems.

This may have good information but it strikes me as a marketing tool.

This is a great book showing how food used to be and breaking down foods of the bible. It is an enzyme principle of how food digetss better. Not a fad diet. Just add in nature's foods to be helpful. What a quick, easy read. I also read "Maker's Diet" and "Physician's something" by him as well. They were just copies of this book. Save your money on those.

I'd read this book years ago and Jordon's suggestions were the only thing that helped me. Recently I developed a flareup of coliltis and bought the book, as I'd forgotten some of what he recommends. I have been taking his Primal Defense ever since the initial diagnosis, and increased the dosage this time, which he suggests. It worked, along with the augmented diet. As my physician told me years ago, "Western medicine has nothing to offer you." And once again, Jordon's methods worked. Wonderful, wonderful book!

I have been taking free courses through Microsoft virtual academy and was hoping to learn some new techniques with this book. Unfortunately I found that there wasn't a lot of new information. I was really hoping for more in depth examples. However had I come at the book with fresh eyes, and no prior knowledge of CSS capabilities these days it would definitely be a great resource! The books topic organization flow is also five stars in my opinion,

This is a good book. I am still new in animation but this book has certainly removed me from 'darkness'. Thnx.

8 stars for the author, Steven Bradley, negative-7 stars for the publisher, Pearson Education, which includes the imprints Peachpit (this book) and Adobe Press. Informit.com handles web distribution of their ebooks if you don't buy it directly from Amazon (I recommend you purchase from Amazon if you need the Kindle format).The content of the book is excellent. The topic is fairly small in scope, but it was precisely what I was looking for. I'm not and have never been a professional web designer, but I am responsible for 2 small static websites. They were both put up years ago, and have gotten pretty stale, so I wanted to freshen them up, but I need some inspiration. I also need to brush up my skills. I got both out of this book. Don't get me wrong, if you're just starting out, this isn't the book for you (yet -- but come back when you get that under your belt!). But if you have the basic skills, this book is perfect. I should also mention I was a programmer in a previous life, so code doesn't scare me and I already have the mind set to debug my own code.Because of the small scope, he's able to dive in pretty thoroughly. He devotes a chapter each to transforms, transitions, and animations, how they work, and exercises to work through. Then having laid the groundwork, he provides a wonderful context for them by laying out Disney's rules of animation. Finally, a few chapters covering the more realistic needs that web designers actually face, such as sliding sidebars and so forth, perfect for the world of multiple devices and 'media-queries' that any web designer now faces.What really pleased me about this book is that his writing style is not only very straight-forward, it's very readable. Too many technical books these days are written with too many boilerplate phrases thrown in. For example, instead of "open the file 'example 4_8'" you get "Go to your main menu and choose file > open. Then in the dialog that opens, in the textbox for file, type in 'example 2_8' (without the quote marks)". That's fine in the first chapter, but all the way through the book?!? The other thing I've found is that sometimes the author bends over backwards to keep it friendly by cracking jokes, which, again, is fine early in a book, but wears thin about halfway through. Just stick to your content! And Steven Bradley does that admirably well. In an e-mail exchange with the author, I mentioned how well he writes. He replied that he just writes the way he'd like to be talked to. Sorry, but it's more than that; this man has a gift for writing technical books.What pleased me the most was that after working through the examples in the book, I finally started to get some inspiration about some ideas for the websites I need to work on.Now for the publisher. I bought the ebook version of this book directly from Pearson rather than Amazon because they offered a steep, short-term discount. In the introduction, Mr. Bradley tells you how to get the exercises for the book by registering the book at Peachpit. This takes you to the informit.com website of Pearson, and lists all the books you've registered with them, and is supposed to have links associated with each book where downloads are available with the book. No link. I sent an e-mail to customer service on 1/21/2015 stating the relevant info about the book and that the download is missing. As it happens I've run into this problem before with this publisher, so I cc'd the author on the e-mail. I got a very quick response from the author, promising if the publisher was not responsive, he would send them to me directly. Two days later I got a reply from Informit Customer Service informing me once I let them know what bonus content I was looking for, they'd be back in contact with me! I was speechless! Needless to say, the author sent me the files immediately. But to cut this sad saga short, the link was finally posted February 10th, 20 days after I first contacted them. I finished the book and all the exercises before then! You can find plenty of other instances of this issue of mssing downloads from this particular publisher in other reviews on Amazon of other books by Peachpit and Adobe Press.I believe this issue should be resolved by now for all purchasers of the book, so don't hesitate to buy it on the basis of the second half of this review, but if it's not, please add a comment to this review!

I have read many computing books and I can say this is an excellent introduction to the topic. Topics are presented clearly, with concepts building on each other in a logical manner. The author does not avoid the matrix algebra underpinnings of animation, which allows the reader who makes the effort to undertake even the most complex tasks. If you are undertaking a web design and expect to use CSS animation or transitions, I think you found your guide.

I am using Kindle on the iPad and I found this book a wonderful resource for looking at the way Sargent approached his portraits. I agree with some of the other reviewers that the resolution could be a little better, but I have found it to be sufficient. The direction of brush strokes is largely visible. Colour is never going to match the originals and paintings are ALWAYS best in person, but I find I have been captivated by it nonetheless. Sargent was a genius and this is a solid source.

I purchased this book mildly used and I am thrilled with the quality. Saved quite a bit and I am very happy about having it in my library!

The book is printed in Italy - gratefully not in China. Would have been an insult to the memory and quality of the art. However, the discourse is rather preoccupied with the glory of Getty and Stark. Understandably, it was their majesties' objective, when spending the big buck in acquisitions and pseudo-philanthropy. So it was difficult to ignore the obsession of Antonia Bostrom with art-dealership on art's behalf. We all must be truly grateful to these parvenue 'art-lovers' for their wealth 'gained' and spent on art. The book would have been much better without its first half, chanting about proud owners. Perhaps, expanding the academic discussions on each of the sculpture achievements and additional photography would make it better. CONCLUSIONS: Getty's PR is confusing fine art history with advertizing, which explains their revenue, but does not make compliments to the author. Wish the cost of the book was invested more into art history instead history of money.

It's not just a great narrative of the 5 characters that made up the band, their views of the band and the roles they played. Just as interesting is how the music came about, where the inspiration came from, and which of the members played and voted on the songs to include. It was fascinating to read that the band took a vote between doing The Wall or The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking, which Roger Waters would go on to do as a solo. The book does a superb job of upending many of the notions that are out there (e.g. Waters, after spurning the band, was desperate to reunite but it was David Gilmour who demurred; Syd Barrett's contributions were limited to a single record, more limited than I thought; the 1980s Floyd was not about raking money but about proving Waters wrong).The book is strongest after Gilmour enters the picture, and Blake gets to concentrate on the band and its music, rather than the circles around them. The personalities are truly interesting, the talented but lazy Rick Wright, the happy go lucky Nick Mason, who becomes alienated from best pal Waters, the stoic Gilmour, who soldiers on as best as he can, and Waters, who comes out awfully from this history. From the early Barrett years, Waters was already being difficulty and a bully, and his narcissism and ego ends up blowing up group dynamics.Superb read, couldn't recommend it any more.

A wonderful book. I echo many of the sentiments already put forth, namely in that Roger Waters was arrogant and yet the prime driving force behind what gave Pink Floyd its depth, and that he was better with David Gilmour than he was alone -- and the same goes for Gilmour, despite what the large Floyd concertgoer numbers show to the contrary in the years following Waters's departure. I saw Roger Waters and the Wall in Louisville in 2013, and I was blown away. He truly plumbs the depths of the human condition in a way that few rock artists have ever been able to do, and for that, I am thankful for the man. I'm also pleased that as he is now in his 70s, he sees some of the errors of his younger days, times when he was, by many accounts, a prick. Blake also explores effectively the romance, the tragedy, and the reality of Syd Barrett's decades away from Pink Floyd. Though largely reclusive, he pops up in different portions throughout the book, and Blake conveys just the basic sadness of his demise. I love all of the members of Pink Floyd, and the Wall remains my favorite album of all time. Blake has done a great job of showing the brilliance and the sometime-misery of this rock band.

Pink Floyd had always been elusive to the rest of the world, namely music critics and the fans who gobbled up their albums with no real knowledge of who they were. Syd Barrett played a significant role first as song writer and lead guitarist, then acid casualty who was dismissed from the band after their first album. This exhaustive book revisits those people and places that made Pink Floyd a household name in rock music. I was impressed at the sheer volume of research concerning Syd Barrett and his downfall from the world of pop music. Equally impressive was the inclusion of Dave Gilmour, who taught Syd how to play guitar when they were just teenagers in late 1950's Britain. The stroke of genius was Dave Gilmour joining the band in 1968, saving the Floyd from being a footnote to the psychedelic music craze that briefly saw "Swinging London" rave ups, and hemp smoke filled dance halls. Pink Floyd would create a new direction with Gilmour, and albums such as Atom Heart Mother, Meddle, and the universally accepted Dark Side of the Moon forever brought them fame and fortune, all the while Syd's specter loomed in the background, as lyricist Roger Waters would build a career on isolation and madness from his departed friend. This fine book covers all the history of Pink Floyd from the early jams in 1964 right up to 2007. No stone is left unturned in this literary history of one of the greatest rock bands of all time. A must read for any hard core or casual Floyd fan. All of your questions will be answered.

This is a very well-researched bookumentary (don't bother Googling that word; I just now made it up) spanning from the early 60s when they were just teenagers through the passing of Richard Wright in 2008, including much coverage about Syd Barrett before, during, and after his time with Pink Floyd. This book shares a lot of behind the scenes stories and details about the inner-band disputes that eventually broke up the band after The Wall before reforming sans Roger Waters.

A bit long winded, although it does give a good appreciation of the personalities involved and the ups and downs of this talented bunch of guys. It covers the tragedy that Sid Barrett's life became and Roger Waters doesn't come out smelling of roses generally, him being at the centre of much of the band's arguments and political posturing, seeking to dominate and dictate no matter what the consequences. His driving need to be the leader and dominant figure coupled with the lack of empathy with the other band members and their ideas and opinions, probably cost them dearly. You can totally understand why they didn't stay together and the acrimony, especially between Waters and Gilmour, was very evident. Shame really, you can only imagine what could have been produced creatively had they remained as a band for a longer period, in addition to the fabulous catalogue they produced when they were together.

This is definitely the most comprehensive of the Pink Floyd biographies I have seen. Lots of insights on what may have happened to Syd (and Rick Wright for that matter), and a lot on the ego war that eventually tore the band apart. Unlike a lot of the bands that came out of London at the time, these guys came from the intelligentsia and artisans of Cambridge and London, and were not from the working classes at all.

I absolutely love this book. Like the reviewer above. I too have a compilation of scale books only to find the exact same scales in those books as the ones contained in this little book. I warm up with this book daily and I've come across some I never seen or heard of before and thats so much fun to practice to. One thing I do find deceptive is the repetitive collection of the so-called 400 scales, which are the exact same scales played at different frets and the book is filled to the brim with this fact. With that out of the way. This book is a real gem and it does the job which is what we want anyway.Good buy!

This is a well written account of the effort to salvage K-29 that emphasizes the rather astounding and nearly successful efforts to maintain secrecy. HMB-1 was of particular interest to me in that I was in charge of the piping and machinery design when it was built at National Steel and Shipbuilding Company in San Diego. The enormous complexities of the design and engineering efforts for Glomar Explorer were well covered without getting mired into minute design details. The mechanics of how the actual, on site recovery was accomplished is also very well described except for HMB-1. Neither it's exact purpose nor the manner in which this strange looking vessel was employed are entirely clear.Shortly before the launching of HMB-1, President Nixon came to the shipyard In San Diego. His visit was unannounced untilthe day before. The library in the engineering office was suddenly stuffed with wires and all sorts of equipment and the next day two helicopters landed in the middle of the shipyard. The president got out, climbed up to a recently built scaffold, and spoke for about twenty minutes with no mention what-so-ever about HMB-1 which was sitting on the ways right next to him. I got to shake his hand as he walked the rope line back to his helicopter and just like that, he was gone. We all went back towork. We couldn't figure out what it was that we were building or what it was for. The gossip included manganese module mining--not much else. It looked like a dry-dock or a barge of some sort but with several odd features -- a telescoping roof for one. Another odd feature not mentioned in the book was a watertight compartment in one of the wing-walls that was accessible to divers while submerged. It had a submarine type entry from the sea. In it were numerous valve manifolds for flooding and blowing out the ballast tanks, tank level indicators and a substantial control console with a variety of gauges and switches. What was it all for? Nobody knows. See photo.According to the book and many other reports, only a portion of the sub was recovered. This is substantiated by the significant effort that got under way to go back and get the rest of it. This effort was cancelled as impracticable. For one thing, there was no more secrecy. Might it be that this effort was a ploy? Why would we go back if we had gotten it all?There is a great deal of internet info about K-29 but much of the project is still secret. The book gives an excellent account of the entire project --start to finish, or almost finish. We really don't know what we got. have a lingering suspicion that we got the whole darn thing. At first, I thought this would be some derivative spy story about some minor Cold War incident that has no historical significance. I had never heard of any of this before. It turned out that I was delightfully wrong. This book is the epic story of a secret CIA operation whose scale in terms of historical importance is up there with other more well-known events that are part of the Cold War narrative. Author Josh Dean has created a multilayered look at project involved thousands of people to raise a Russian sub from the bottom of the ocean without making any of it public.The technology and the "just do it" mentality of the people behind it remind me of the same attitude that went into putting a man on the moon, with the added insanity of building a cover story to cloak its real purpose.Epic on many levels:(+) The technology to raise a Russian sub from the bottom of the ocean...in the early 1970's(+) The multi-layered ruse which deployed Howard Hughes' involvement as the cover(+) The amazing technology built into ship that had never been tested before on such a huge scale(+) The main layers of lies needed to conceal the operation from the USSR as the operation was conducted in plain view...and more!I even liked the epilogue at the end of the book in which the author describes the process into which he gained access to many of the people still living who played a role in this amazing con.

You may have heard a brief overview of this story: How the CIA used the cover of an eccentric billionaire to pull off one of the most massive covert operations in the Cold War. Its been recounted and featured a few times in various mediums. But you will not find a more detailed, thorough, and riveting account of this spy-saga. This book is not a bland chronology of events, but a lively and engaging, tale of real-life spies, brilliant engineers, government subterfuge, and audacious (but true) schemes that result in pushing the boundaries of known technology and the delicate international balance between rival superpowers.The book's narrative style guides the reader through the knotted history starting with the origins of Cold War intelligence gathering through to this brazen retrieval of a Soviet sub some three miles under the ocean surface. My dad loves history. Usually military history, but I like to mix it up every now and then. You would think there would be a limit to interesting WWII books, but apparently not. (Definitely needs to be more Korean War books, though.) He found this story fascinating. I thought he’d take it on vacation with him, as that’s when he gets most of his reading in (too busy watching Russian car crashes on YouTube otherwise), but he started it right away. Then told my brother all about it. He doesn’t usually rave that much about these books (Days of Thunder being an exception), so I guess he really liked it.
