About the Author
Dennis Andriesse has a Ph.D. in system and network security and uses binary analysis daily in his research. Great book as an introduction to advanced binary analysis techniques: binary instrumentation, dynamic taint analysis, and symbolic execution. Includes overview of the ELF/PE formats and a x86 assembly crash course. This book is great accompaniment for the popular Practical Malware Analysis. Readers should already be familiar with C/C++, x86 assembly and basic reverse engineering.
I have only gone half way through, but what I liked most was that it jumps right into details. Its very organized content wise and easy to follow along with the examples. There's a vm you can download to follow along which is a huge help.
Covers all major binary analysis topics, from basic to advanced, withclear illustrations and examples for each topic. Includes overview ofthe ELF and PE binary formats and an x86 crash course to help thebeginning binary analyst get up to speed.
Great book so far (I haven’t finished reading it yet). But this is the third book I have gotten and its always been the same issue: the cover comes off. The binding is at fault.Amazon has exchanged / refunded me so many times for these incidents. Although the book contents are great, the overall experience is not.
Can't go wrong with No Starch Press. This is a great book on analyzing ELF binaries. Doesn't cover Windows PE binaries very much but well worth the read.
