Read this book - Cover. To. Cover. - in 3 hours. Which sounds shocking, but it is barely thicker than a hardpressed grilled cheese.Some of the most self-aggrandizing, delusional drivel I have ever read.Will be selling my copy. Too embarrassing to keep this on my bookshelf.

I wanted to like this book as I used to be a big Anthony fan before he delved into the racist cesspool.However, the book is highly unprofessional and littered with lazy typos starting from the opening paragraph “I was born in the City of Manhattan” - Manhattan is a borough.The content of this book is essentially rehashings of Old OA bits and it comes off as lazy and tired.

Started the book as soon as it was downloaded from my pre-order and couldn't put it down. Amazing. Shocked to find negative reviews from people who obviously never read it

There's certainly a book's worth of material regarding Ant's life and the OnA show, but this ain't it. It's poorly written and badly edited, but the main problem is that it's way too short. The whole transition to the dual show between XM and FM radio is handled in about two paragraphs, but it took a couple months for the negotiations that resulted in the "walkover", I know, I'm actually listening to the spring 2016 archived shows right now. You could write chapters on how all that played out. You could write 25 pages on the various Stalker Patti episodes, and where is Patrice Oneal in this book? Aside from Jimmy, Patrice was the most influential third mike on the show, and even had a broadcast of his own for awhile, the "Black Phllip" show. Where's Big A? Bobo? The deadly attacks on other radio personalities pursued by the Pests? And for a book that's suppose to tell all, there's precious little of "walking on Gregshells" in here. Try again.

As a long time fan, I eagerly anticipated Anthony’s autobiography. He is a fantastic story teller and has lived an incredible life. This book is funny and amazing. It is an easy read and I highly recommend it.

I think Anthony is one of the funniest guys on the planet and I had high hopes for this book. It started out that way describing his childhood and giving some humorous insight into how he turned out like he did. Unfortunately things went downhill from there. If you've been a fan and have been following this saga you will find that 90% of the rest of the content is just retreads of stories you've heard many times before. There are a couple of highlights such as the appearances on the late night shows and how that went, but I was really hoping for more detail into never-before-heard incidents or even just MORE info on what did happen. Everything is just glossed over in this brief book. The organization of stories also seems disjointed with different "controversies" thrown in at different times.Ultimately I don't know if this come together due to having (two?) co-writers or whether Anthony's humor just does not translate to the written word. Minor note, the book is a bit out of date, as it was finished before Artie was let go from the podcast. Would have been interesting to read about that.Still rooting for Anthony but the book didn't hit the mark.

This book is a quick and useful guide for anyone picking up photography. It's a paperback, 128 pages, handbook size.The five chapters inside covers the fundamentals of photography, namely subjects like composition, exposure, light, lenses and where to find ideas. They are written in a concise manner, one main subject with explanation accompanied by one photo as example. Very easy to understand.There are lots of useful techniques explored. This should make it quite helpful for learners, to get them up to speed fast.It's a simple book that does its job.

If you're going to get into photography this book isn't bad for a beginning. I was disappointed though that with all the great photographic examples that none of the photographs had any information on how they where shot, what shutter speed, aperture etc. I think that information would have elevated this book to something that the next level photographers would have been able to get something out of it too. I would highly recommend that if you're going to purchase this book then also purchase Understanding Exposure by Bryan Peters, these two together will definitely light a fire for the photography bug in you.

The back cover of this book has the following description:“No scary graphs. No techie diagrams. No camera-club jargon. Read this if you want to take great photographs walks you through the fundamentals of composition, exposure, light, lenses and the all-important art of seeing without drowning you in technobabble”.Does the book fulfill this description? The answer is yes. There is a brief description of the main (and basic) elements of photography such as aperture, shutter speed and ISO along with many photographs that illustrate these concepts well. However, in this reviewer’s opinion, many of the photographs could have been more explicit in that there could have been photographs showing the impact of incremental changes in these on the photograph. For example, a series of photographs of moving objects that show how high shutter speed freezes action and how, as shutter speed is slowed, it is blurred. The same applies for aperture (on depth of field impacts) as well as the impact of higher ISO speeds (on noise). Nevertheless the book does illustrate these concepts fairly well with the included photographs. It’s just that subtleness is lost by looking only at extremes and not incremental minor changes.The book also discusses well some of the major factors behind composition such as framing (i.e., rule of thirds), symmetry and flow of lines and curves across pictures. However, due to the books very short length, these discussions are very short (2 pages each if the accompanying photograph is included). Again, however, the basics are brought across. The last part of the book focuses on “seeing” as an art. The coverage in this area, as the rest in the book, is again quite short. The basics are brought across again, in a clear and concise manner.For anyone with an intermediary or advanced knowledge of photography, everything in this book has probably been seen a million times before. Hence for that audience this book would be of very little value. That audience, though, would probably still appreciate many of the photographs in the book. But it should be stressed that this is not the intended audience for the book.In short, this book is a very good short, concise introduction to photography for the beginner. In about an hour or so of reading that audience can learn more than any other book (this reviewer has seen) for that same time frame. However, to learn more they would have to read other material. For example, on the art of seeing this reviewer would recommend also reading Bryan Peterson’s “Learning to See Creatively: Design, Color and Composition in Photography”. Many of Peterson’s other books would also be of interest (i.e., “Understanding Shutter Speed”).

Im just getting started in photography, but right now its just a hobby, nothing too serious but I still love taking pictures. What I really like about this book is that it teaches you how to take certain types of pictures while showing you exactly what those words mean. I started reading today, Im not halfway done but I've already learned some cool stuff, plus the example pictures are really beautiful. For beginners like me this book is as good as it gets in my opinion. Its really simple and easy to understand.

While there is nothing new in this book that you cannot find with a basic internet search, the author does provide an easy to understand, no non-sense and clear walk through the basics of photography. The book is rich with example pictures from renowned photographers (such as Ansel Adams...) and the author uses these examples to help understand the technical side of the camera.No book is going to make you a professional photographer, but if you want the basics to give yourself a running head start, this book is it. The best advise the author gives is to PRACTICE!!!!

This book is a pretty good read, the author simply explains some of the techniques used in photography today with examples of photographs. Theres no complicated language or technobabble. Just plain and simple this is what you should look for, this is how to make your photos look more impactful, and this is what you should do to get the image to tell the story you want.I would recommend this book to beginners. Anyone with loads of experience shooting photos may already know most or all of the content found in this book. Other than that, there are some great pictures.

All this is done in lay terms without long technical dissertations. This is a very good book for beginning photographers who want to move beyond taking snapshots. It is a very short book and I would have preferred a more detailed discussion and more examples to study, but overall I think the author nailed it.

Nice bible but it's not a ( kids) bible it I just a bible. I expected it to be have some notes to help a child to understand some of the passages but it doesn't.

The translation is not for kids. It is still the same NIV translation but with a cover saying it is a gift bible for kids. The font is a bit bigger allowing comfort reading. Ye, if you need a bible dedicated for kids, go for another version.

After the untimely death of their 21-year-old son, novelist/screenwriter Wurlitzer ( Little Buddha ) and his wife, photogapher Lynn Davis, embarked on a spiritual journey through Thailand, Burma (now Myanmar) and Cambodia, seeking solace and enlightenment from Buddhist sacred places. They found instead a consumer culture in which material desire has displaced the spiritual center with disastrous consequences for the indigenous practice of Buddhism. By the end of their journey, Wurlitzer and Davis have failed to find the illumination and peace they had so desperately sought. Unfortunately, readers will gain as little from this book as the authors did from their trip, for Wurlitzer's style is pretentious, and his questions, for one who claims to have practiced Buddhism, are sophomoric and self-conscious. Had he remembered that in Buddhism enlightenment comes only after one has forsaken all desire, he might have been able to transcend the physical and spiritual exhaustion that dominated his journey. Wurlitzer, the screenwriter for Bertolucci's Little Buddha, offers a fragmented narrative of a multipurpose fling through Thailand, Myanmar (Burma), and Cambodia. The author and his wife, a photographer on assignment, were mourning the death of his stepson (her son), exploring film projects, seeking spiritual soothing by visiting such sites as Tham Krabok and Angkor Wat, reporting on the sex shows of Bangkok, and apparently writing this book to pay for it all. The text is heavily larded with quotes on Buddhism and newspaper clippings of current events. Wurlitzer's contribution details the couple's fevers and aches-and inoperative hotel plumbing. The result is a superficial view of the area. Many good books are being published on this region and what its cultures can mean to us, for example, Sue Downie's Down Highway One (Allen & Unwin, 1993) and Stan Sesser's The Lands of Charm and Cruelty (LJ 5/1/93). For a long time, I've been influenced and fascinated by Buddhism, especially zen. This memoir is a very personal and revealing look at a couple's Buddhist faith in the context of the death of their son. The words are beautiful in their sparseness. The book gave me food for thought on my spritual journey and did not have an ounce of schmaltz or self-indulgence. It is a very sharp and clear insight for anyone investigating Buddhism or simply reinvigorating their spiritual path, whatever shape or form.

I lost my copy ( probably loaned it - never to be seen again) and wanted to read it again.

This book was a loaner and, when the owner requested it back, I finally sat to read it first - I am very glad I did. As a practicing Buddhist convert, it spoke to me personally, but it wd. be a worthy read for non-Buddhists attempting to make sense of crisis or loss in their lives. The author and his wife journey to Asia to attempt to find solace and peace from his wife's tragic loss of her 21-year-old son, but end up being confronted with more difficulty, both philosophical and physical, than either imagined. The answers he was looking for must be gleaned, if at all, from a corrupt, hedonistic, often oppressive overlay that characterizes life in traditionally Buddhist areas they attempt to explore. In that sense, they tend to go from bad to worse in their attempt to find reward ... which, for those who appreciate such themes - as typified in Conrad's "Heart of Darkness ...makes finding the purpose of spiritual pilgrimages quite dicey, and not necessarily the peace-filled jaunt we hope for. In short, the author's journey forces him to look reality square in the face which, not surprisingly, is usually where profound healing can start. But it's a placed for the called and courageous (all of us, potentially). It is understandable why a few reviewers wd. dislike this book so much. It is dark - that's clearly the point - but, I believe, quite authentic and helpful. Not everyone's cup of tea ... in Pleasantville.

The author and his wife have been stunned by the accidental death of their 21 year-old son. They take an assignment to capture photographically the Buddhist images of the three countries toured in the book, Thailand, Myanmar (Burma) and Cambodia. It's very depressing, outwardly and inwardly. They cannot escape their grief, they encounter much more grief in this perverted war-ravaged part of the world. It becomes an existential malaise, no exit, quite moving. He quotes nicely different Rinpoche's, such as "All this doing has no more meaning than walking around a desert . . All this exertion produces no result." Touring the dilapidating temples of Anghor Wat the ennui becomes palpable. The book is a heroic fight against despair. Author and wife win, but at some cost. Good introduction to Buddhist scriptures that interlace and support narrative. I ended up admiring the author, thinking of buying his latest novel. He brings to life the old Buddhist story of the woman whose child died, beseeching Buddha for medicine to bring the son back to life, ending with, "Holy one, enough of this business of mustard seed. Only give me refuge."

I couldn't differ more with the review by T. Gilbert! Sure this book is self-absorbed - but as the author journeys into himself he finds a universal suffrage. The author's courage to face off against death is remarkable in these times of flippancy and shallow know-it-all attitudes. The author is a wonderful guide through the darkness - and to be admired. There's nothing at all sophomoric that I could find in the book, nothing. It's as serious as it gets. The way that the author divides up the journey into a lusting/ignoring/hating triad of suffering is as an intuitive an expression of Buddhism as I have ever come across in my studies. Perhaps "every one has experienced loss in their life"; but few of us dare to share the accompanying humiliation with each other, or ourselves. Thank you Mr. Wurlitzer!I also suggest Inside Thai Society: Religion, Everyday Life, Change by Niels Mulder and Bali, Sekala and Niskala: Essays on Religion, Ritual, and Art by Fred B. Eiseman for an exploration of how Buddhism can help guide us over, around, and under the many hurdles in life.

Reads as a wrenchingly honest narrative of two people confronted with the deepest wound possible for a parent... the loss of a child.As a Buddhist/meditator he does a good job of looking at events through the eyes and heart of an honest man.

I really wanted to like this book. A beloved friend, who is a deep reader to sacred places, sent it to me with the highest of recommendations. I read it... and wondered what my friend saw. What I experienced was an egomanical traveler who was completely self-sunk, never too far away from a pen, and utterly enamored with his Hip Urban Self. The motivation for the travel story is poignant and heart-breaking, but the execution of the book is tedious and can't break the gravitational attraction of me, Me, ME. Answering my friend's question of "How'd you like the book?" was a nuanced conversation. Since my house is modest, and shelf space at a premium, I donated the book to a local library sale. Hopefully somebody bought it for a buck and found some wisdom. Or not.

This book pierced me and then did triage on me. I’m actually too old for these kinds of self-examining, skin-peeling back, mask-unmasking kinds of books. I read it anyway. For one thing I read A Million Little Ways and fell in love with Emily P Freeman, found her blog and now I am hooked. But I also read it because God nudged me to it. I may be too far gone but I have young ‘good girls’ in my clan who need the wisdom in this book. I can’t very well recommend a book I haven’t read now can I?I can’t really add much to all the other reviews except for one little thing: as specific as it is to young women, the whole truth of it could help young men as well. The twenty-thirty somethings who are floundering and have no clear vision of what it means to be a genuine ‘good guy’ and who need a clear concise message that points to the benefits of a back-to-basics one-on-One relationship with Christ.For heavens sake what else can be said except just read it?

Yes, I've been the proverbial "good girl," the people pleaser. I'm getting over it :) Living on a dairy farm has shown me the futility of always trying to have everything just right, trying to make sure I'm just right. I can't tell you how many segments I underlined in this book and took to heart. "We are not called to be strong women." "Here's the truth: aside from accepting Jesus as your personal Savior, there is nothing left to do to gain God's favor." No, not even making sure the laundry is done, the floors mopped, and supper on the table on time. The end result of trying harder is usually feeling worse about ourselves. So, let's just live the life God has set before us—not so easy for the good girl. Ms. Freeman's book will make you feel freer and lighter, without giving you any new rules to follow.

I don't agree with everything she said theologically but a lot of what she says is so good that I encourage you to read it with a grain of salt considering all of scripture. I've let go of my masks a long time ago but have considered putting them back on because sometimes it's hard when ppl around you think you should be wearing a mask. People are uncomfortable with reality. A lot of what Emily writes brought me back to Christ and I especially loved writing out the "rights" that I want and verbally giving them to God. I experienced healing by that. While I am still figuring out how to have healthy relationships and boundaries....laying down my pride and rights has helped me to approach situations with others with humility while still having healthy boundaries.

Best for ages: 15 and upAlthough most of the things in this book were not new ideas to me, and even though the author could get repetitive, I really enjoyed this book. I never hurts to be reminded of a powerful truth: that their is no need to hide behind masks.I was nineteen when I first heard the message (though not through this book) that it was okay to not be okay sometimes, that I didn't need to pretend all the time. It is a message that girls (and guys) who grow up in the church need to hear. Even without meaning to we can get caught in the habit of wearing masks so that no one can see the real us, but then know one can know or love the real us either.I would highly recommend this book to girls who are feeling weary of trying hard, never feel they measure up, or think that they have to be more then they are to please God.

I loved this book. I listened to the audio version and found myself nodding in agreement way more than I would like. It was like she was reading my biography at times. It is really well written and helped me to think deeply about some of the behaviors that drive me. The behaviors that are not in line with what scripture teaches me. This book has been a spring board to pushing me deeper in my faith and journey. Trust in Jesus and His abilities and love are the key to life not me trying to control my little world! Time to let go of my striving to be a good girl.

This book is beautifully written and really ministered to my heart. I too am a youth pastor's wife like the author and I have dealt with the same issues she speaks of in this book. Hiding behind masks of the "good girl" is just as bad as living on the wild side. Neither show true freedom until Jesus comes in and sets you free. Good girls tend to "strive" and thankfully for God's grace we don't have to any longer. This book is highly recommended. The cover is so pretty and I use it as decoration in my living room as well.

Inspiring stories of just how much muck He can pull someone from.But it always left me feeling boring and neutral beige.... what about me? I have no triumphant story. I was told Jesus died for me and I never doubted it. No miraculous turn around.I never made waves. I always did what was expected. The Perfection monster ruled and I was a faithful servant.Then Emily Freeman comes along and gently exposes the hidden sins of the "good" girl... and sweetly invites her friends to brave peeling back the layers to allow Christ in.It sucked the breath out of me more than once as I recognized my own private battles before me in black and white.Oh the life that is being robbed by the good girl lie!I'm half way through this book for the second time. I will read it until its truth has seeped deeply into the cracks of this heart.Jesus died for the good girl, too. And His transformation in her is just as amazing as He calls her to a place of rest in HIm.If you're a good girl wondering if there's more - you want this book.

This depends on if you are a new Christian or not. I don't hide my feelings and to open to hide behind a mask. I feel that this would be good for those who are trying to learn how to trust God in their lives. I don't think it makes a good study book for those who are already trusting in God.

We love this series in my house, and eagerly await the next installment. This series is a great introduction to fantasy and adventure. The villains are just the right level of scary for a young reader. Perfect to the early reader who isn't yet ready for books like Harry Potter or The Series of Unfortunate Events.

My son, 9 yo, loves these books. I can’t say enough good things about them. They hold his attention and he is actually excited about reading, which is a huge accomplishment.

My son loves these books. When they arrive I don't even have to ask him to read, he grabbed it and was done in one day.

We read this series to my 6 year old son and he loves it! It’s perfect for his age because he understands it, even though he can’t read it completely by himself and it has lots of pictures too. A great chapter book!

My 10 year old grandson loves this series and they are not too difficult to read, but still offer some challenging words.

My soon to be 8 year old grandson loved book one and I gave him this book (2) in his Easter basket. He was thrilled. Pre-ordered book 3 for his birthday and it’s on its way! Book 4 (final of series) will be released this July. My grandson said he wants the entire set of books so his little brother can read them when he gets older. Sweet.

My son adores these books! Definitely looking forward to the next!
