My son had a book report at school and chose this book. He really enjoyed it and said he couldn't put it down. He said if you love soccer and are a CR7 fan then this book is for you. My son is 12 and is a huge Cristiano Ronaldo fan. He said it gives a lot of good info about CR.

My first-grader loves this book. He brought it to school with him and read several chapters to his classmates. It is perfect for a young reader as the subject matter is very appealing to a soccer fan yet it introduces more complex vocabulary (it is not a picture book). It is also a touching rags to riches story, one of perseverance, passion and drive. Highly recommended for young readers.

I thought the book was very well written, and if I could have given it a four and a half I would have. The book was written in easy to understand and proper composition, and quite informative. On the other hand, I think it needs an update pretty quickly to take into account the possible impact of Fidel's death which it does not cover since it was published just before that. As constructive criticism for the update (if any), I would have liked a more in-depth analysis of the JV case studies to really get down to the nuts and bolts of the challenges and successes, I thought the write-ups were somewhat superficial and perhaps with a little more work, research and interviews it could have been outstanding. There are a number of other large foreign businesses in Cuba not mentioned or analyzed in the book, and I had hoped to have seen more about them. I feel that the interviews of millennials although a great idea and entertaining, should have been much more extensive (more samples with statistical selection elements) and totally off the record (i.e., no real names), as the interviewees would have no doubt, been much more candid and this might have been more useful to the reader. I think it should have touched on the proliferation of prostitution, a topic which is notably silent in the writing. I liked the fact that the author gently touched on the level of corruption which is (and has been) clearly a major problem in Cuba for many years now, and how the so-called communist experiment didn't work for productivity gains, and several other revelations that I find other authors are hesitant to make in their published writings about Cuba. I would have liked a commentary on how effective the author considers Castro's revolution has been, based on Fidel Castro's own platform and criticism of Batista regime, i.e., dictatorship, corruption, class (military) differences, prostitution, etc. (probably only missing gambling casinos today). I liked how the author cautioned investors on ensuring any plan needs to consider Cuba's mission to not be a puppet of any country again and several other considerations. I also liked that the author didn't place blame on the U.S. for Cuba's woes, which I often see mentioned by other authors. It was an objective down to earth writing. thank you

If you are considering a visit to Cuba, or just interested in knowing more about this fascinating island nation, I encourage you to read Richard Feinberg's new book, Open for Business: Building the New Cuban Economy. Richard is a highly respected political economist and expert on Latin America who has become a noted Cuba expert after writing a number of reports on Cuba for Brookings. This book is a comprehensive overview of where Cuba is at right now and its potential for economic growth. In particular, I appreciate the case studies highlighting both large multinational companies attempts at establishing joint ventures and on young millennials trying to make their way through slow going reforms to open up Cuba to provide more opportunities for it's citizens. Let's hope that Cuba is able to transition in a sustainable and thoughtful way the will allow for more freedoms of the people to improve their lives while maintaining a strong, unique and independent culture.

There are some real gems of insight in this book. For example, Cuba's trading partnerships always end badly (page 64). The Soviet Union and Venezuela collapsed. Other countries have tired of the endless bureaucracy and opaque decisions, or of Cuba not paying its bills and asking for more credit. My only wish is for a chapter about the Internet in Cuba. How will the Internet will change the economy? What happened with the undersea cable to Venezuela (it's failure was blamed on "corruption," but Feinberg shows that "corruption" is a term used loosely by the Cuban authorities, sometimes meaning that a manager is paid more than four times what workers earn)? Why was Google's offer to wire the island rejected?

Great insight into the fragile economy of Cuba along with some great historical perspective. Too bad our current administration is attempting to cause a set back by imposing new and outdated regulations for travel the island and interaction with with growing but very fragile free enterprise class.

Excellent overall general survey of the current status of the Cuban economy. I would have liked to see a bit more analysis and discussion of the official economic data of the country. For example, how well do their national income and GDP figures compare to the standard natl income data found in the West? Does Cuba still adhere to the old Soviet methodology? Can the Cuban data be reliably compared to those for other 'emerging markets"? It would be interesting to hear from some of the economists and statisticians who have responsibility for producing the Cuban data.

This book is a GREAT primer to begin to get your head around the situation in Cuba, both historically and for the future. I would love to meet the author in Vedado & buy him a nice meal and discuss his work and especially his thoughts on a Post Fidel Cuba. I was here last week when they announce his death. What an EPIC time to be IN COUNTRY...

Well-researched with illustrative case studies of recent business ventures, as well as interviews with inspiring Cuban millennials. If there's a better book out there for understanding the potential risks and rewards during Cuba's critical transition into a more market-based economy, I've yet to find it.

Just so people buying this book know: The questions in this book are NOT in the style of the NEW AP US History Exam. They work great for reviewing the content of the course but if you are looking for a book that will mirror the updated exam this will not do that. It does have some MC questions that have a stimulus, which the book calls DBQ's, but even they (while still good info) are not representative of the new test. The book also includes some short answer questions whose content is good, but again they do not represent the new SAQ's from the 2015 update. I still think it's a handy book for content review and practice, but not for the test itself.

This is a great resource for high school students.

Not up-to-date. Questions are way too detailed and will not show up on the actual exam.

The format of the APUSH exam has undergone significant changes since 2015. This book is totally out of date. The exam now contains stimulus prompts that generate set of 2 - 4 multiple-choice questions. The current multiple-choice questions and short-answer questions are completely different from the ones in this book So BUYER BEWARE!

This is a must for all AP History Hopefuls. Very detailed, very well organized. Even if you aren't studying for the AP test, heck even if you are not a student, it is a very interesting look at U.S. History. Love it!

Deny them at your peril, he seems to say.To appreciate and enjoy Utopia For Realists, you must buy into the initial premise that our problem is we can’t come up with anything better than the way things are now. We have run out of goals. We have run out of ideas. We are all about cutting back, servicing less, and ignoring various elephants in the room, like automation overloading us with leisure time. Western society is so wealthy in historic terms that we don’t realize we have reached Utopia. Even at our worst, we are infinitely better off than our forebears. What we need now is a new Utopia to aim for.Guaranteed income sounds impossibly expensive, but everywhere it has been tried – dozens of places - it has worked spectacularly. For one thing, every dollar spent saves three in less supervision of beneficiaries (eg. Police and court services, pointless workshops, training sessions and reports on everyone all the time). For another, the poor don’t drink away the income; they hang onto it dearly, measuring it out only as needed for the biggest impact. Poverty is not an attitude; it is a shortage of cash.Two hundred years ago, we worked 70 hour weeks with no days off. And we were miserable. Today, we can be miserable with 40 hour weeks, two days off and 2-5 weeks’ vacation. Soon, we must face the reality of 15 hour weeks, because artificial intelligence will pick up where automated looms, assembly lines and robots have left off. We can massage it into a Utopia, or let it destroy our fabric. Our choice, but we need to start acting now.Borders prevent development and trade. Mexicans used to return from the USA at the rate of 85%. Now they have to stay put. Finding new markets or even just work is enlarged with a larger territory. Artificially compartmentalizing everyone is stultifying. Economically, politically, and socially. Passports and visas – a totally artificial construct recently invented, benefitting no one.Bregman doesn’t get into the self-imposed need for growth, though he does criticize the concepts of GNP/GDP. He says governing by numbers is the last resort of a country that no longer knows what it wants, a country with no vision of utopia.He ends with sound advice for the Left: stop caving to right wing dogma. You have access to dramatic facts. Use them. There are gigantic, proven solutions waiting to be implemented if only someone would sponsor them. He points out that the accepted issues of the day, like voting by women, same sex marriage and abolition of slavery were outrageously radical and completely unacceptable just a few years ago. IMHO the largest problem we face in the Americas is income equality. Let Fox News scream "class war", the rich have been waging war against the middle class since Reagan. This book touches on this but mostly talks about universal basic income (I'm on board!), a shorter work week (although 15 hrs/wk seems too low) and open borders (I'm having a hard time wrapping my brain around it). Other ideas include taxing capital instead of labor and a transaction tax on Wall Street. But let's face it, change cannot come until we remove the money from politics, taking power away from the insanely wealthy, corporations and special interest groups.

This was a great overview of how the idea of a basic income is both more possible and indeed has been more successful in the past than most people realize. Unfortunately, the biggest obstacle - changing people's perception - is only touched on. In some ways this feels like a really good professor telling you "And finally, as an exercise for the class...go change their minds."

In stream of elections that never seem to end -- I just voted in an Australian election today -- I never cease to be disappointed by the true lack of choices on offer. Like most countries we have two major parties. One vows to disassemble the social compact quickly and one will take a slightly slower course. What I see is a lack of imagination of how the world might be better and how the world align to where we are headed. Rutger Berman makes a number of proposals. You might say these proposals are unrealistic, but Bergman provides a well thought out analysis and makes a strong case. Among the things argued for are: a national social income, a reduced work week, and a reduction in the retirement age. I think it time that we start to engage with these ideas.

Mr. Bregman lays out three societal changes that can improve our world. He puts forth solid cases for all three and describes a better world. I would recommend this book to anyone discouraged by recent political movements looking for an alternative uplifting future.

This is probably the most accessible book ever written on complex social issues and a potential solution for them. It does not matter whether you like the idea of UBI or you are against it, this book is a must-read only by its merit of fluid style, readibility and professional, research-based journalism. If you were pro-UBI, it will solidify you in your position, if you you were neutral or against it for any reason or just pure prejudice, it will make you re-think and open your eyes.

Where Is Broadway?   “Five minutes to curtain!” shouts the stage manager.    In the dressing rooms, the actors take their last looks in mirrors ringed with lights. They check their makeup, making sure their wigs are in place and their mics hidden. A singer does her final vocal warm-up, belting loudly. Her voice rings through the halls above the theater.   Other actors are going over their lines. There’s a tip-tap-clack of tap shoes. It’s the members of the chorus. They are all dressed in matching costumes, ready for the opening number. The costume designer quickly snips a thread off of the leading man’s suit jacket. She straightens his hat and pushes him to his place on the stage.   Beyond the heavy red curtain, the audience settles into their seats, excited for what they’re about to see.   The lights in the theater dim, and the conductor raises her baton. The orchestra begins the first notes of the overture (a sampling of the songs), and the curtain rises. This is Broadway. It’s showtime!   The excitement happens over and over again, eight times a week—six nighttime performances and two in the afternoon, called matinees.    Everyone who works to make a show happen, from actors to producers, directors to designers, comes together to put on musicals, comedies, and dramas for audiences in theaters in the famous Times Square area of New York City. Some shows will become huge hits, like Wicked or Hamilton or The Lion King. And some will not even make it past their opening nights! This is the thrill, and sometimes terror (forgotten lines, falling scenery), of live theater. But this is Broadway, and there is nothing like it!   Chapter 1: A Long Path    Broadway is a very long, very busy street that runs north to south through the middle of Manhattan in New York City.   But Broadway is much more than just a street! It represents the history of American theater from its earliest days to the present. It reflects the hopes and dreams of people all across the country who want to make it big on the stage. It is where people from around the world come to experience the wonder of live theater.   Today, the heart of Broadway is around Times Square in midtown Manhattan. It’s called the Theater District. But long before the Times Square theaters were built, long before there were flashing lights and giant billboards for shows, Broadway was important in a very different way. It is a part of the history of New York City.   The Lenape first inhabited the island of Manhattan. They named it Mannahatta which means “island of many hills.” Most of the land was swamp and rock and not good for farming. The Lenape did not consider the island to be very important. Its main road was called the Wickquasgeck Trail.   In the early 1600s, Dutch settlers established a colony on the tip of Manhattan. On May 24, 1626, they purchased the entire island from the Lenape, trading tools and other goods. Today the sum would be worth only about twenty-four dollars.    The Dutch named the trail Breede Wegh (or “broad road”). In 1664, the English captured the island. They named it New York, in honor of a famous duke, and they changed Breede Wegh to Broadway.   Manhattan quickly became a busy port. Sailing ships with costly goods aboard came to and from the harbor. However, there was not much to do for entertainment. Both the Dutch and the English were Protestant. Their religion considered theater to be sinful. It wasn’t until 1750 that two British actors, Walter Murray and Thomas Kean, appealed to Governor George Clinton to permit acting. He agreed, and the first New York theater opened.   Named the Nassau Street Theatre, it was at the southern tip of the island, just a few steps from Broadway. The theater held nearly three hundred people. Unlike the velvet seats in today’s theaters, hard benches were the only places to sit. The light came from candles. It was so cold inside that the audience would bring bins of hot charcoal to stay warm. Nonetheless, people returned each night to see the lighthearted British comedies performed there. And soon, other acting troupes arrived.   The next great downtown theater near Broadway was the John Street Theatre, opened in 1767. It was impressive, with three floors and two thousand seats. Some historians call it “the birthplace of American theater.” Performances of Shakespeare’s plays were especially popular.   When the American Revolutionary War began, most men were called to fight. People weren’t going to see plays. After the colonists won independence, the new government outlawed what they considered “extravagant” British entertainments. Theater was once again forbidden.   The residents of Manhattan were already theater fans, so after the war, it didn’t take very long for plays to resume. In 1798, the Park Theatre opened a block away from Broadway. For the first few years, the theater did not make much money and almost went out of business. But in 1808, a man named Stephen Price became the new manager. The theater was renovated to suit upper-class patrons. In addition, Price hired famous European actors and actresses. Price could charge more for tickets to performances with well-known stars.   As Manhattan continued to develop, the wealthy class began to move a little farther north. New fancy theaters sprang up in these neighborhoods. The Bowery Theatre opened in 1826, and the luxurious Astor Place Opera House opened in 1847. Patrons had to dress in suits and gowns. They sat in plush seats that were reserved in advance.   The working class was not allowed in the new theaters, and they resented it. There was a growing tension between rich and poor in Manhattan.    In March 1849, a group of working-class men stormed the Astor Place Opera House because a British actor, William Charles Macready, was playing the starring role in Shakespeare’s Macbeth. The rioters were angry that a popular American actor, Edwin Forrest, was not given the part.    Forrest championed an American style of performing Shakespearean plays. He acted with less flourish and fewer grand gestures than Macready. Forrest made his characters seem more like real people whom everyday working Americans could relate to. The “Astor Place Riot,” also known as the “Shakespeare Riots,” left more than twenty people dead.   As New York City’s population grew, local officials encouraged people to “move uptown and enjoy the pure, clean air.” In 1836, a major road—Forty-Second Street—officially opened. It cut across Broadway. A new neighborhood was born.    By the 1870s, the area was the center of popular theater in New York City. A wealthy businessman named Oscar Hammerstein built the stately Olympia Theatre at Forty-Fourth Street in 1895 and the Victoria Theatre in 1899. (The Victoria was sold only sixteen years later, however, and became the Rialto Theatre, one of New York City’s first to show a new kind of entertainment: movies!)    Other large theaters began opening as well, which looked very much like the Broadway theaters we go to today. In January 1905, the New York Times newspaper moved into a new building on West Forty-Third Street. From this time on, the whole area became known as Times Square.

Short book...summarizes the key points of Neville Goddard's work. I've read all the other Neville Goddard books and some of his lectures.I found the answers to the questions in this book helpful...and, like many of his books, he often says things in one place differently from some of his other books...and sometimes this 'new way' of stating previous material makes a very positive difference. I found that to be the case in this book.

I enjoyed the book. I never agreed with the teachings of the Bible by certain pastors and reverends but his book really made me think. Ever since I was little they way they taught the Bible never made sense to me. Being scared of God never made sense to me. Taking responsibility away from ourselves and blaming it on everything else made no sense to me. So finding this book out everything in to perspective FOR ME! If you are a closed minded religious nut I wouldn't get the book because I THINK you would be probably be offended. Just giving you a heads up! But if you're open to viewing the Bible in a different way then give it a read.

Neville Goddard is a true mystic with a matter of fact way of teaching. He's the real deal. There are tons of books on manifesting. But, if you can learn to feel your desire, you only need this one.

Only recently: last year came upon this author's work-- and trust it's a divine move!!! I've skim through because currently reading another from this, same collection-- and admittedly so, feel as though (for me,) they are a gift from heaven!! Totally helping me to put things in proper perspective-- especially the language, understanding, clarity, teaching, and delivery style of this, author!!! I was not brought up as a Christian so it was hard to read due to its heavy use of Biblical quotes but once I got past that block it was easy to understand the central message of the book! Imagination is everything! Hindus call it Maya! This book teaches you the fundamentals of how in everything manifest in our lives and how to CONSCIOUSLY manifest everything that we want in life and leave out things we don't! Grand-daddy of Abraham and all other recent "Attraction" literature!
