I already love this book. The graphics, the topography, the photographs are all gorgeous. It is part travelogue, part autobiography, and part cookbook.There is the odd unusual ingredient (that you can usually substitute or omit) but for the most part if you have an Asian store nearby you can do these recipes. They are not overly complex as sometimes happens when the author is a professional chef - these are recipes of his family and of local markets, restaurants, and hawkers.Vietnamese food is a relatively new thing in the US since most immigrants arrived in 1975 or latter - but it is well worth seeking out. It is not Thai, it is not Chinese, it is not French - although there are influences of all three - Vietnamese cuisine is it's own wonderful thing.If you want to get inside Vietnam, see some country side, see how the people live, and taste how they eat you will enjoy this book.

I collect cookbooks and this is by far my favorite one. I have been following his show and decided to buy the book. I am really glad I did. In fact, I like this book so much that I've taken it with me when I visit my friends' houses and one of my friends recently bought this for herself for her birthday! We cooked Banh Cuon together and made Auntie's sauce too. Everything turned out beautifully. The beef turnip salad was a hit! My husband loved it so much, he decided to open the book and made it for himself. I highly recommend this. The paper is good quality and the photos are beautiful. His stories are great. EXCELLENT book!

I just got the book the other day so I have not cook anything from it yet. But, being vietnamese myself, just by reading his recipes. I can tell that it is the real thing. The recipes is very similiar to my mom's cooking. I owned his first book so I know his recipes will work out just fine. I enjoy reading the stories in the book. He's so funny sometimes. I left Vietnam at age 5, and being living in the USA for 31 years. Everytime that I asked my mom how to cook a certain dishes, she would tell me to add a little of this and that, well Luke's book is wonderful to have on hand. Good job Luke, can't wait for your next book.

Beautiful pictures and good recipes. Interesting back stories but the author doesn't drone on and on about how wonderful and interesting he is like some other books. Learned some interesting things about the country as well and its different cities. The ingredients can be hard to find if you don't have a well stocked asian grocery.store. But, if you do, the recipes I've tried have worked well and were easy to follow. I will definitely be cooking my way through much more of this book.

I'm Vietnamese so am very picky when I purchase cook books. I normally do a quick flip through the book and look at the recipes and ingredients to determine the authenticity of the recipes. Luke's recipes are very authentic easily seen by the simplicity of preparation and the ingredients that go into them. I enjoyed his previous book "Red Lantern" and this book is excellent as well. Highly recommended to anyone who is looking for an authentic Vietnamese cookbook. His stories are also very heartwarming!

I am Vietnamese and I love this book. I bought this book for my sister too; my brother looked at it and immediately tried to order the Kindle version (there is none). So I promised him I 'll order one for his belated birthday present. I tried out several of the recipes for my siblings and we loved them all. The banana cake we had done about 3 times in one week because we were so impressed with it, we made it again to share among us and to bring to a potluck. I made the imperial clear dumplings and was amazed at how easy it was. I had not made them in 20 years because I was afraid of the hot dough (my old recipe). His recipe said to rest the dough for 15 minutes, wow, no burnt hands this time. I made two of the sauces, the dipping fish sauce, and the lemon fishsauce. They were both right on. The lotus stem salad was so good and simple to make. In one meal I made 4 of his recipes: the loofa soup, lotus stem salad, shrimps with pork belly, and banana cake. I was so proud of myself. I am actually making Vietnamese food from a cookbook, no guessing and repeated tasting.The book has great personal stories from Luke Nguyen that all of us find fascinating. I wish there were more pictures in this book, but the pictures he did have in them were wonderful. So far I have bought 4 copies of this book, 3 for my 3 siblings, 1 for me. I am so happy to finally find a book that I can be proud to display as a coffee table book and use it for cooking as well.

Recipes are bad, food that results is not tasty. I think it's deliberately misleading because Luke wants to protect his own recipes. Not worth what I paid.

I am planning a trip to Indochina and wanted to find out more about Vietnam than the war. The book has a beautiful cover and the photos are excellent. I want to try a few recipes, they sound so yummy. I am looking forward to try this cuisine and learn more about the country.

Great book, not just for kids but for adults as well. The "why's" behind the thought processes and actions that cause anxiety are clearly written and backed by solid research. The steps for dealing with anxiety are clear, progressive and actionable. I found the book interesting and easy to read. There is a lot of information but the areas that are familiar were easy to identify. I have been using some of the practices in the book with my family and it has led to some interesting and eye opening conversations.

This book does such a great job of explaining what anxiety is, the range of ways it can show up in kids (and/or adults) and how you can get it under control. Dr. Walker's practice of utilizing CBT and exposure therapy with patients is spot on and I have witnessed it work firsthand. I highly recommend this book as a guide to help you and/or your child learn how to identify, understand and manage anxiety. The guidance laid out is priceless and will be beneficial to anyone suffering from anxiety.

This book is short, readable, based on proven research, and contains all sorts of easy-to-use checklists. I was surprised to learn how much of what I was doing as a parent was exacerbating (and not helping) our son's anxiety. The CBT approach is very practical and it works. Since I read it it has changed my perspective and way of thinking and analyzing all sorts of problems from business to personal life. The book in a sense has become a manual of problem assessment in my life I have used its concepts in situations where I have to predict rivals moves in business, work and personal life. Also its concepts help you in situations where you have to bargain or assess opportunities and disadvantages in purchases, investments or even in choosing your partner. Thinking Strategically is a rational approach to decision making that can reduce the stress and anxiety of uncertainty and will give you better control in life. In the end outcomes in life are statistical and through good strategy you have a more dominant position reducing risk and loses.The only thing missing in the book might be Harvard's strategy expert Michael Porter, who is one of the most important proponents on business strategy with his theory of the 5 forces. However Porter's approach is eminently business oriented and it doesn't have much applicability in other types of non-business scenarios.Thinking Strategically is more a general overview of the most fundamental concepts and theories in strategy and definitely a must read for those interested in understanding more about decision making. Its power for the general public is the easy to understand reading of complex mathematical and economic concepts.

So I recently moved from Banking industry into consulting. I keep hearing strategy this, Strategy consulting and it just confused me as to how is it different from plan. So I went online and looked this book up, an man is it interesting. It is a good book. So let me make few key points here:- It is fun to read from page one (This is important to note as I am not a reader, i am a watcher, i love to watch movies)- It is laid out well, I was infact so impressed that i started making notes as a I read it, and i suggest to get most out of this book make notes.- Will this help you think strategically, umm I am not so sure, however, it will help you analyze what you read in the newspapers on a daily basis. Be it Budget talks in the white house and how one side is pushing the other over, how they strategize, you can actually guess and understand more than what you read at the surface in the news papers. And trust me it is a cool nerdy feeling. So in a way it helps you look into how people respond and build your best response. So over time it will help train you to become a strong strategist, but don't expect to be running Bain and company by the end of this book.- Finally Price - you cant beat it, so much knowledge for so little, its like the arm chair economist, you should buy that too, if you like fun reads like this.

This book was recommended to me by my manager as one of his favorite business/leadership books. Thinking Strategically is a book that talks about the different decision requiring situations that involve multiple parties within a variety of settings - politics, corporate etc and the underlying game theory fundamentals. Namely some situations are where the parties involved act simultaneously and ones where they move in a sequential manner. For each backward reasoning is used to determine the different strategies and outcomes for each of the parties. The authors not only present the strategies, but also the reasoning on how one arrives to them and their superiority in different settings and more importantly their weakness in some of the scenarios. Not all problems, after all, have an equilibrium solution.While there are a number of other books that discuss the topic of thinking and making decisions, this book set itself apart by the plethora of applied examples. My only criticism is that there is quite a bit of overlap amongst other sections. While that serves the reader who is reading one section at a time well, if you are reading the book cover to cover, you will find some repetition.I will conclude with one of my top learnings from this book is and I quote: "...it suggests that in the case of making offers, "'Tis better to give than to receive."" This was in reference to tactics on bargaining.

I thought that strategy would have more substantial science behind it. Dixit introduces gaming theory and numerous interesting examples of how strategies were executed, but it is not easy to find the fundamental principles of strategy that one can apply everywhere. After reading the book I do not feel much more enlightened and enabled with strategy development and execution... except for the chapter on brinkmanship. That one was enlightening.

I liked the book. The authors examples and explanations helped out a lot on Game Theory and how it is used in some cases. I was able to follow along and keep up on most of it. I like math just as much as the next person, but the examples in the book were simplified enough for almost anyone to follow along. I would recommend this book for anyone that would like a different point of view when negotiating life's challenges, rather that be in personal life, business, or for fun.

Unless you're into playing games . but I don't play games. So I am not feeling it! A waste of my money.

Anyone who enjoys this book should be able to take something useful from it.Thinking Strategically was required as a supplementary text in a game theory course I took as an undergrad; while I enjoyed the notation-heavy textbook, Osborne's An Introduction to Game Theory, Dixit and Nalebuff are beyond comparison in their ability to distill complicated problems into simple, intuitive solutions.

Well first of all I am way behind on my work and life because I couldn't put this down. The Arthurian legend is, well, legendary so I was both excited and nervous about Once and Future. It exceeded my expectations. McCarthy and Capetta manage to find that perfect balance between the story we're all familiar with and new elements to make it their own. Merlin is amazing in this version (I mean, the guy hums K-pop). I really love the diversity of characters. Readers of all sexualities, genders, orientations and melanin will find themselves represented here, and in a way that is not "about" being ace or fluid or straight or whatever--that's just one aspect of the character that is basically as mundane and routine as having brown eyes or being taller than everyone else. Once and Future broke my heart over and over as it filled me with hope and joy and made me laugh. The ending was both satisfying and a cliffhanger for the next book. Can there be like 10 more of these? Fans of Marissa Meyer's Lunar Chronicles will feel particularly at home here.

Holy bananas, this book is swallowing me whole. I haven't even finished it yet (edited--now that I've finished it, I'll have a bit to say about the ending), but I can't wait another minute to start screaming and fangirling. If you are or ever have been a queer teen, if you are a POC (or a white person who feels better, safer and happier in a universe where racial equality is the status quo); if you love hero epics, marvel movies, social justice, and fully realized female, queer, and nonbinary characters, you are going to FLIP OUT. The world (well, universe) the authors have created is one you will fall into head-first. I honestly haven't been this deeply gripped by a book in a long, long time. Like, staying up reading until 2am even though I know I have to wake up at 5:30, kind of gripping. It's such an amazing gift to get a queer, brown teenage girl as the star of this kind of massively epic hero quest (a retelling of the King Arthur story set in the quasi-distant future, in the style of Firefly--it's outer space, yeah, but still just humanity plundering every resource available; no aliens here). I love that hardly anybody is straight, and hardly anybody is white. I'm pretty sure there's only one character who is straight AND white--and even he makes it clear that he doesn't feel any sense of entitlement based on these arbitrary factors. This really is a universe where social power structures have nothing to do with race, gender or sexuality. Of course, even that awesome feat on its own wouldn't make a story worth reading, and it could even come off as preachy or soapboxy in the wrong hands. But, y'all, this story. This story will make you, too, forget the need for sleep while reading. Ari Helix is the kind of hero I can actually relate to; it's shockingly easy to see the world through her eyes, and by doing so, feel those heroic, evil-corporation-destroying feelings like they're your own. Her love story with her "Gwenivere" is beautiful and heart-wrenching and so, so hot. There are plenty of other characters of course, and they are all complex and engaging and important (especially Merlin, who has witnessed the rise and fall of thousands of years of human history only to find himself a teenage boy for the first time in his ancient life, and little clue about how to handle his hormones). The camradierie of the group is also a huge and beautiful part of the story. But Ari is the key to it all, and she's here for it.So now that I've finished it, I have to say I wasn't thrilled with the ending. The pacing felt really rushed, the characterization of "the masses" in this universe felt really underdeveloped. I had been expecting rallying the people to be a bigger part of how Ari would lead the revolution. And without giving any spoilers, I can only say that the way to defeat a giant, universe-monopolizing corporation can't be whittled down to taking on a single figurehead. I really don't know how much more I can say without giving spoilers, but for me there were also some holes in the way things were left in the brief aftermath of the grand climax, concerning where and how literally ALL the means of production in the universe were happening. It sort of seemed like the whole ending was a rush to set up the sequel.That said, I will still absolutely read the sequel, and I would LOVE to see this get made into a movie too, it's a highly visual and action-filled narrative. I'm still giving it a 5 star rating. If there was a 4.5 option I'd do that, but since there's not I'm sticking with 5, for all the wonderful things that kept me up all night reading, and all the radically game-changing representation of diversity of race, sexuality and gender. Bottom line is the love for the characters, and as long as they keep having adventures, I'll keep reading.

This has not impacted my review which is unbiased and honest.)There were so many elements about Once & Future that I really loved: the characters, theme of found family, and the sibling relationship between Ari and Kay. It's one of those books you walk away from thinking, "I loved all the things Capetta and McCarthy did in this story: combining diverse characters, a gender bent King Arthur, and spaceships". And so for these aspects alone it deserves these stars.

So then what happens when you make the legend a reincarnation story where Arthur is tasked with uniting all of mankind under one banner, but somehow failing each time.Except this time, Arthur has been reincarnated into the body of Ari, a young woman in the future, who pulls Excalibur out of an aged oak tree on what is now called Old Earth, and needs to defeat the tyrannical Mercer Company who has a monopoly on pretty much the entire galaxy and forces people to follow their laws and their rules lest they will cut you planet off from the rest of civilization with a barrier. And helping each Arthur on each quest is Merlin who has been progressively aging backwards with this cycle (#42) finding himself a teenager with a penchant of singing a pop song before conjuring his magic?(Takes imaginary breath).Well, you’d have Amy Rose Capetta and Cori McCarthy’s Once & Future.If you can’t tell, the premise is attention grabbing. With all the retellings out there, I don’t think I’ve ever come across a gender-swapped retelling of the Arthurian legend in space. So right away it piqued my interest.Once & Future has a lot going for it. First and foremost, the diversity and representation is fantastic. Capetta and McCarthy take all the stigmas that are still prevalent today, in regards to gender and identity, and make them a thing of the past. It doesn’t feel like something being forced or check-marked into the story either. It feels honest and refreshing and what we can only hope the world will embrace more in the present.I also enjoyed how the ties formed between the original Arthurian Legend is utilized as a stepping stone for Ari’s story, but how she continues to subvert everything that Merlin has come to expect in each cycle. Most obvious being that this time Arthur is female. It’s these places that make the story the strongest and works the best. And if I’m being honest I feel like that’s the way it should be because, clearly, this cycle is different, this cycle has the potential to see all the steps through to the very end—to the uniting of humankind—it needed to be different from what’s already been.However, when the story follows too closely the path set forth in the original Legend—calling out the Arthur, Guinevere, and Lancelot love triangle—is when it fell into too much melodrama for me. Granted no one has ever said that Arthurian Legend isn’t made of drama, but the problem is that everything felt rushed. I didn’t get to feel the heartbreak because in the blink of an eye we go from an intense attraction, complete with promising backstory, between Gwen and Ari to marriage to heartbreak. Merlin and one of Ari’s knights, Val, find themselves in a similar state of attraction, but I found their relationship a much better slow burn.This is true for the friendships as well. I loved the interactions between a thoroughly futuristically modern Ari and a centuries old, sometimes stodgy Merlin. Set in his ways and secure in his tasks, Ari throws him for a loop and brings him out of his shell a bit. Ari starts the story off as a fugitive refugee and with Merlin’s influence becomes the face of a revolution. I wanted to see more of the build up from tentative associates to genuine friends.Overall, Once & Future is an ambitious retelling, auspicious in scope and execution. The adventure clearly isn’t over for Ari and her knights, and I’m interested to see what they bring to the table next.

The book itself is laid out ok. The information seems pretty dated (it needs revision) compared to the current job market (applications going online only, as well as job networking). There is also a lot of information that tends to be covered in other classes, like ethics/legal concerns and the history of nursing. I could understand if this book got more in depth, but it doesnt. There are also quite a few spelling mistakes.Overall the book just doesn't seem useful. It seems to assume you've never had a job before. The few bits of good information could have been taught in class without the book easily.

Eh, I needed it for class. It arrived quickly in good condition, but it's a fairly nondescript book, and most of the information had been covered in books we had used in previous classes. It wasn't the fault of the book so much as our faculty and curriculum. Like most books of this kind, it is full of business jargon and HR buzzwords, but who knows? Maybe the knowledge contained in these pages will be crucial to my nursing success someday.

Good condition

Its a pretty good read, but if you are born with common sense, then you could probably breeze through this one. There are facts tho that might come in handy to know (leadership styles, etc) when it comes to taking a Leadership course.

Excellent and clear book reading. I was so surprised at the creativity. I am surprised this book is as old as it is. It should be revised again. Many new weavers would enjoy this book because there are other alternatives to rag weaving , that is, using old clothes from thrift stores and t-shirts you can actually dye and do surface hand painting;, also. using different textures like chenille brocades and so on. I would love to create a textural surface design with the tees. Very good teaching tool and an very inspiring.

I have many books on rag rug making and so wasn't expecting much new information from this. Was greatly and pleasantly surprised; this is a wonderful book filled with techniques and instructions and all the ideas. Would recommend for every rug weaver to obtain as it is a great reference for techniques and ideas.

Good photos and instructions for creative rag rug weaving. I look forward to trying some of the patterns and appreciate the quality of the work presented.
