I am a math tutor. I look for books that have pages with fun and engaging problems that are for the STUDENTS not for the TEACHER. I've ordered several books where I can't see what's inside and what I find when I read them is that there is a lot of written out explanations and/or the problems are jammed unattractively onto the page without a lot of space so that I have to re-copy the the problems that I like for my students. This book, on the other hand, is page after page of problems that are visually engaging and stimulate algebraic thinking. Every single page of this book is ready to go. And my students love these problems. I am looking for level 2 and beyond. I hope the publisher makes more versions of level 1 as well.

As a private tutoring company owner I always look for materials to accelerate my students of all strengths. This book, just like the other two I bought from the series, also written by Darin Bigie, Math Analogies Level 3 (Grades 6-7) and Mathematical Reasoning Middle School Supplement (Revised), present refreshing math challenges that are unique and thought provoking. I found that the patterns cover all topics of math though preAlgebra in clever and fun formats. These books are must-haves if you are a math teacher or a tutor.

I love this company and this book is one of their best (in my opinion, of course!) Seeing patterns and understanding mathematical relationships is a large part of what makes for great math skills. This book will make your kids (and you!) put on your thinking cap. At the same time, the exercises are fun - I never hear any complaints when I pull this book out for the kids to work on. I think the pages have a nice number of problems without being overwhelming. My 8 and 9 year olds have been working through it - the 8 year olds require extra hints, sometimes, but my 9 year old does well on his own. The problems in the book cycle through five different "types" of problems and get progressively more difficult throughout the book. The equality explorers were our favorites and we purchased the Critical Thinking Co's Balance Benders book to get more of them! The book is pricier than someone workbooks but it will probably take some time and thought to get through - so it's a good value for the cost.

This book was purchased for upcoming sixth grade students. Each activity will be used sometime throughout the school year as a brain game to begin each school day. It provides a great variety of challenges for students, which could easily be used for more than one school year as well.

10 year old daughter enjoyed

Our 11-year old son enjoyed this math workbook immensely and was proud to have recently finished it after completing a page per day for fun. The problems are interesting. He cannot wait for the next book!

very disappointed that printed on both sides which means need to be copied and one side ruined. People who made this don't know color because the markers bleed through. I use several pages of blank paper behind each picture, cut them out and color on a flat surface with paper beneath, this one book is pretty useless.

I love the designs in this book, but unfortunately the pages are thin. They would not withstand marker. They would probably not be archival. There would be bleed through if you used even the lightest of inks, and added gesso on top of it (yes it's a thing). However the art itself is beautiful. The mandalas are gorgeous and unique. Unlike so many other mandala based books out there this has some really original art. I hope the author and artist can get this book republished on perforated one sided multi media paper. I scanned the design so I could color some of them on nice card stock. However, I wish I didn't have to do that. If it was any other book I probably wouldn't have bothered.

This was the first adult coloring book I bought so I did not know about designs printed on both side of the page. I love most of the designs but had to pick which ones I wanted to color as it is impossible to do both if you use markers as they go right through the page and mess up the design there. so you only get half the amount of images to color.I was not luckier with pencils as they ruin the underside design too, maybe I press too hard and you will be OK. Some people copy the designs but I did not like the feel of my copy paper when I colored on it. Creative Haven is my go to choice now as they only print on one side. I have given this book 4 stars for the art, not for the finished bookI did NOT get this book for free nor for a discount so you get my unbiased opinion.

As lovely as many of these images are, this book has some serious issues that cannot be ignored. Firstly, and most importantly, the pages are printed double sided. This limits the medium one can use on this book to dry only- no markers, no paints, etc. You are essentially limited to just pencils, which might not be such a big issue if... The second issue: The pages are VERY thin. Even with gentle shading motions, shredding a point of a page is so easy, it detracts from the enjoyment of the coloring. Lastly, The pages are not scored for easy removal from the book, making it even harder to work on a single image. With all of the other issues, this is not a book I would buy for someone else or recommend.

Original Review:The mandalas in this book are very beautiful and the designs are so intericate they remind me of works of art you see in a museum. I like to use color pencils so the double page design doesn't detract from the book for me at least. I liked that there were a few examples of what finished mandalas look like. As someone who is still fairly new to mandalas.Edit typo.Update for Dec 2017Since buying this Mandala book in February of 2014 (and leaving review that I thought was for Amazon and the author. Not actually published on site.)I have gone on to re-purchase this book several more times for gift giving. After developing a preference for gel pens in adult coloring. I returned to purchase two copies of this book to remove the pages since this book has a double page design. Although that's fine when using color pencils, it actually isn't a great design feature for anyone who enjoys using a wet media for coloring. Especially if there are designs you wish to keep after your finishedWhile I'm now of the opinion that this book would benefit from a single-sided book format. For colorist versatility. It still a 5* book in my estimation based upon how I've witnessed others receive it as well as my first impression of the book. I would highly recommend this book to others.

Being and avid colorist that started this past summer, and I fell into hook line and sinker; I have collected a variety of coloring books, different types of mediums (pencils, pens, markers) ways to keep them all organized. I am learning my style, new techniques and what I enjoy coloring; which at the moment is pretty much most anything, although some of the finer detail areas have to wait for days my wrists or eyes aren't bothering me; and having a magnifying glass also helps too. There is such a wide variety of coloring books out there for adults; if you are looking for something to help de-stress, to help cope maybe with different medical issues you maybe facing or whatever, don't be afraid, just jump on it there and give it a shot; I am sure you will find something that will suit your fancy and they even have coloring books for men too. A lot of these artists have GREAT talent, and it surely shows when you flip through these pages. So, what are you waiting for? Pick up a coloring pencil, kick up your feet, sit back and relax and color yourself a great picture!!!

Later, in Washington, with a cover job as Soviet press attache, he cultivated "moles" and other intelligence assets, and helped handle American spy John Walker ("a huge catch"). Stationed in Moscow, Kalugin became a protege of KGB chief Yuri Andropov and eventually was appointed head of the Foreign Counterintelligence Directorate. His detailed account of the use of sexual entrapment includes the revelation that the KGB virtually controlled the Russian Orthodox Church through the blackmail of its many gay priests. By 1990, concluding that the organization he helped to build was "rotten beyond salvation," Kalugin threw in his lot with the democratic reformers. The First Directorate was the KGB section in charge of foreign espionage. Kalugin first spied against the United States as a student at the Columbia School of Journalism in 1959, when he helped recruit a rocket scientist. He eventually rose to be head of Foreign Counter-Intelligence for the KGB before running afoul of bureaucratic infighting, which stopped his career in 1979. (Dumped from the KGB, he became a member of Soviet Parliament.) Kalugin worked with John Walker and the legendary Kim Philby, and he helped plan the famous poison-pellet-in-the-umbrella assassination of Georgi Markov in London. Noting that it was not easy to recruit spies in the American government, he comments that the best people simply walked in off the streets; money was their main desire, since the USSR had long since lost its ideological attraction by 1969. This is an interesting and easy-to-read story of intelligence operations during the Cold War. Recommended for the espionage collections of public and academic libraries. The book discusses the metamorphosis of a general in the KGB, from an ardent Communist in the 1950s and 1960s to a somewhat bitter and disillusioned man by the 1980s. The author claims he first started having doubts about the glories of communism after the crushing of the Prague Spring in Czecheslovzkia in the summer of 1968. His personal exposure to the incredible Party corruption he observed in Leningrad in what turned out to be his last assignment finished his disillusionment and conversion to a citric of the entire system.There is little in the book about KGB grand policy or actions. He describes the espionage activities he personally observed and in which he participated. It's still an interesting book and written in a manner that is easy to read.I have to wonder, though, how much his journey from doubt to disillusionment really began in the 1960s and how much is a result of hindsight stemming from the collapse of the USSR in 1991. Throughout the book he describes how he personally benefitted from the Soviet communist system. Not many people turn on a system that provides them with a life such as he enjoyed. He does hint that the comparison of life in western countries with what he observed (but did not personally experience) in the USSR gnawed at him.His account on page 247 of a visit to the Czech - Austrian border is illuminating: "I shared an unsettling -- even melancholy -- experience with the director of Intelligence. ... On the other side of the river, Austrian families picnicked along the riverbank. Children flew kites as parents unpacked food hampers and made campfires. It was a picture of idyllic contentment and peace. Silently, we stood on our side of the barbed wire.... I sensed that everyone in the Soviet delegation was thinking the same thing: They are the ones who are free and we the ones in a prison camp."Writing books on the collapse of the USSR from the 1970s through the late 1980s has become almost an international literary industry by now. Following are three books that I thought offer something a little different in viewing the subject:* '"Political Will and Personal Belief -- The Decline and Fall of Soviet Communism" by Hollander (1999);* "Why Doesn't Russian Industry Work?" by Kosals (translated by Crowfoot, Poluyan, and Sedova), (1994);* "The Rise and Fall of the Soviet Economy" by Hanson (2003).

As an amateur Cold War historian, (I have to use the word amateur as I possess no initials behind my name, at least not in the field of history), I highly recommend this fascinating book to anyone seeking an experience far beyond that of other books on this subject. Although retired KGB General Oleg Kalugin reveals nothing new about the Cold War itself, he offers the reader something much more significant and unique. Through the frank, non-apologetic words of this extremely intelligent man, a man groomed for a top slot in the corporation by KGB chairman Andropov, we journey not only through KGB counterintelligence operations of the Cold War but through the stark realities of the internal workings of the KGB itself, as well as those of Soviet life. General Kalugin actually gives us a book within a book, as he takes us inside himself to reveal his thoughts, feelings, motives and perceptions. Those who wish to learn about the complete man will find this aspect priceless, as he was no ordinary KGB operative. Here is a man who spent 32 years in the Soviet KGB, reaching the powerful rank of major general and chief of foreign counterintelligence. Here, also, is a serving KGB general who, while physically in Russia, publicly spoke out in favor of social reforms, in addition to reforms within the KGB itself, and lived to tell about it. General Kalugin's book is not for everyone. If you are looking for a politically-correct and superficial account of the Cold War, which would be right at home at any modern public school, this book is not for you. If, on the other hand, you desire an in-depth and deeply personal tour of the Soviet KGB conducted by one who lived it for 32 years, then this book is an absolute "must."

Well written. Interesting story.

It is clear that Kalugin is holding back on his story here, to protect himself, and to protect the USSR. The reason to protect himself, by not talking about the worst things he did (perhaps murder?) are obvious - he wants to be trusted and establish friendly relations in his new American home. By his own account, he repeatedly states in the book, how he would "never betray his home country" so that is why he won't tell the truth and let the USSR look bad, that is where is true sympathies still lie.For about one page, he mentions quickly, how much of his work was spent in disinformation campaigns, like writing in American publications pretending to be an American who hates black people, or destroying Jewish cemeteries in America pretending again to be a American vandal, all to spread strife and internal chaos. But then he very quickly drops this topic, and spends endless chapters detailing how he would try and turn Americans into sources but that he did so in a very friendly manner, so no need to dislike him!He briefly touches on one instance where he may have had to use violence, and he was ready to do it because he's a tough guy! But fortunately it never came to that so Kalugin is okay cause he supposedly didn't use violence in his entire career at KGB!There is another instance where he talks about his plan to lure a Soviet defector out of America, but of course the plan is to do it peacefully and then just TALK with him and then they will become friends, but unfortunately some bungling Comrades of his "accidentally" killed the defector but he had no part in that!Kalugin is clearly lying scum. he is covering for his Communist Comrades and his own anti-American actions. He should not be an American citizen.He did leave in one passage which is quite interesting, where he gives a *wink wink* to fellow Comrades about how JUST MAYBE "glasnot" was not what it seemed. Maybe it wasn't this truthful openness movement, but a KGB operation. Here is Comrade Kalugin's own words describing what happened,"In all the years I was in Foreign Counterintelligence, Literaturnaya Gazeta was our prime conduit in the Soviet press for propaganda and disinformation. Whenever, we called the editor, Alexander Chakovsky, and asked him to rpint an article, he complied. Sometimes we wrote the stories and put them under the names of nonexistent authors. Sometimes journalists such as Borovik or Iona Andronov wrote the stories themselves, using information supplied by the KGB. But whatever the method, Literaturnaya Gazeta--which oddly enough went on to become one of the leading publications during glasnot--was one of our preferred publications."For truthful information please consider Pacepa, Bezmenov, and JRNyquist.

You will be an analog filter master if you can learn all the information in this book. It's a solid expansion of the classic Van Valkenburg text.Pros:-Extends the original text with topics more useful for integrated circuit design, like transconductance-capacitor filters. It doesn't go into transistor level design though, you'll need to find another text for that.-Detailed, mathematical treatment of filter design. This is a different approach than say, Don Lancaster's Active Filter Cookbook. It's not a text you should use if you need to bang out a design quickly; rather, you should study this text if you want a deep understanding of how filters work.Cons:-It's really obvious where the new authors have added or modified material from the original 1984 text. You can do a side-by-side comparison of the two editions and for the most part, the core material is the same. However, at the parts that have been modified, the writing style differs greatly. Van Valkenburg's writing is very succinct, but not in a way that leaves you feeling like you've missed something. The new authors are more wordy, which some people may like. Personally I find it distracting.-The publisher didn't seem to pay much attention to typesetting. I think this is one of the ugliest typeset textbooks I own. The fonts, the layout, the figures, and even where the figures are laid out in relation to the content is very haphazard. The original '84 text was more elegantly laid out, and was thus much easier on the eyes.-No solutions manual is available. A couple chapters are available on the newest author's website.Overall, a solid textbook if you're interested in the math and theory behind filter design. I believe that you should use this in conjunction with a more practical filter book (like one of the cookbooks) so you get both sides of the story.

The color was a little off and I don't quite understand why to this very day, but it was in perfect condition and I don't regret the purchase because I could read everything easy and there wasn't a single scratch on this book and it was cheaper than my over priced bookstore :D

All he did was read his Blackberry and financial newspapers.And he was rude in a way that only the truly wealthy can display in public with impunity. They had prepared to go to dinner at one of the finest restaurants followed by a film premiere of a French film that would be attended by stars and the director of the film. But in the restaurant, he had left her alone for almost an hour. She had had to put up with the comments of the old ladies around her smiling and commenting on her several-years-older partner. Instead, he was reading her book. After texting a few comments, Lawrence invited her backstage where he presented elements of his film from a very different perspective. The language is a bit sexual during this part of the story, but it is not offensive.The film comes to an end and Clara must get back to the lobby to meet the car on time. She is thrilled to have met a man who appreciated her book. She is not so thrilled to be with a man who has not even read it. Clara and the two men meet in the lobby. She makes an interesting comparison. And in this surprise ending, she decides on the market or niche for her next book. There is an ending worth reading for in this five-star Amazon read.

2nd fave, too too funny ... or sarcastic?? maybe that is a better word for it??! I love finding these collections by Amazon ... this one is all by Michelle Miller ... i thought they usually were different authors not the same? I am still trying to figure how they are related - usually it is just the lady part? newbie to Michelle's writing??! was curious. they are easily listened to. not long at all.

I uh, hmmm.This wasnt a bad story.It was an okay listen.I think like most people, I assumed she was also, not a gold digger, but with an older man for a lavish lifestyle (I dont say gold digger because she has written her own book and published it. Yes with his help.....but....whatevers. you know what I'm trying to say.)Anyway, that twist at the end was AWESOME!Nothing like a good old wake up call!I think that's what made this book pretty good overall.Probably the best twist so far in the 3 I have read. Still pending 3 more.

Events happen forcing her to come to conclusions . The conclusions are a strength. I enjoyed this short story for women .

Two stars for the "twist." The men described in this short story are either infuriating or ewww. I really couldn't see how Clara was so easily swept away by her lover but then the author made a delineation between the first older man to the second which did make sense but still... ewww. Clara does come into her own in the end in a nice, pat ending.

Book 5 of The Fairer Sex collection, Clara, is more about girl power. Clara finally finds her voice after the premier of her "book gone movie" when her father and backstage hookup meet afterwards and she realizes that they are both the same in so many ways and yet different; Clara must claim herself and what she wants.

Very interesting story about Clara as an author and her personal journey to be discovered. Enjoyed but the common themes in Miller’s books is for the protagonist to be desired by men who will undo her. But this ending had a nice surprising ending.

Pretty much a glowing description of a sexual assault.

I'm a big fan of coloring books but this is the first color by number one I have tried. I love it!!!! For me it adds another level of meditative practice to coloring. There are varying levels of intricacy - from fairly simple to very detailed. This is a great choice for someone who is interested in adult coloring books but doesn't feel confident choosing their own color schemes. There is a color key on the back of the book so that you know what the numbers are intended to be, plus on the page opposite each image there numbers and colors are also listed as an easy reference point and there are 2 pages for "color testing" that have small boxes so you can check your marker color before you commit to coloring your image. It's nice to have that in the book instead of having to search for scrap paper every time. They also included 10 bonus images from other coloring books in their series - plus mini images of the covers that can also be colored. It's a great way to get a feel for the other books by this company. I highly recommend this coloring book!I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest, unbiased rview and I am happy to say I would definitely buy it again for myself or as a gift for someone else.

This book contains 20 large print color by number pictures of animals, butterflies, and flowers, which is what I wanted.At the back is a bonus section of 10 pictures from other books the company offers; these are not numbered. While this might be nice for some people, it is not what I wanted. For me coloring by number is restful while having to select colors for complex pictures is not.

It was with great delight that I received my copy of Large Print Color by Number Butterflies, Birds & Flowers in the mail today. The book is large, clearly numbered, and even has a ‘color key’ on the back. The illustrations are beautiful and often complex and the book tastefully teases the adult artist at the end with sample pictures from other color by number books in the series. This is not a child’s simple coloring book. It is for the doodling, coloring, creative adult who enjoys the quiet joy of bringing pictures to life with bursting color. They would make lovely gifts, or something just for yourself to pleasantly wile away the time. Highly recommended!

I purchased this item because I like the "color by number" aspect - it's more relaxing to me to not worry abut what colors to use.Almost half the pages in the book are "extra free pages" to promote their other publications and not color by number. On the pages that are color by number several of the blocks are missing a number/color.

I didn't know what to make of coloring when I bought this, I hadn't done it in 30 years, but I found it a delightful way to pass the time. It feels nice to start out a blank page and see it through to completion, even if you aren't very good at it, which I'm not. I included some pics, but not the ones I colored, they aren't exactly impressive or neat.

The pictures to color are great! The comments and suggestions at the beginning of the book are helpful. The pages should be perforated though. The pictures are not too intricate so you can complete a picture in no time. The markers leak through the page so use something under the page you are working on to protect the following pages.I love the idea of having the corresponding colors and numbers on the page opposite, however these should be relevant to the picture being colored.I will buy more in this series!

Somewhat disappointed. Legend of color names associated with numbers are not always accurate, duplication, some numbers missing. It seems that this book may not have been proofread. Pages are thin, so watercolor pens do not work. Sections are very small in places, so crayons do not fit either. I bought for my grandchild, but it became frustrating to her, and she is a good artist.

I love just about any book by this company. I own several of them. Sure some are missing numbers, but that's where you get to use your artistic talent!! If you're looking for hours of relaxing, coloring fun, these books are it. Highly recommend.
