VERY NICE COLORING BOOKNice thick pages, nice pages to color, great cover. I will try and post pics of some of the pages so you all can see

Attached to this review will be a silent flip-through of the entire coloring book so you can make an informed decision as to whether or not it will work for you.Rather than discuss how this is like or different from the books and/or movie series except to note that the iconic images seem to be taken primarily from the movie, I will discuss only how I feel about it as an adult coloring book.The book is illustrated by a variety of artists and it shows. Some of the designs are simply drawn and some are complex, a few with small intricate details that may be difficult to color. I am really glad that they did not over draw the faces with too much detail as I will be able to add my own blending (this was a problem with the recent Sherlock coloring book.) Some of the designs are quite heavy on black spaces – something I would have preferred to put in myself. Otherwise, the designs are well done artistically. They have included glossy pages at the end of the book – perhaps so we can know what colors are to be used or simply as a fun addition to the book.The book is printed on both sides of off-white heavyweight and non-perforated paper. A good number of the designs are printed across two pages and merge into the bind (which is glued rather than sewn.) I did a count and this is what I came up with: 40 one page designs, 4 of which are “wallpaper” repeating patterns; 19 designs spread across two pages – 5 of which are wallpaper style designs. Unfortunately, a good many of the iconic scenes were in the ones that were spread across two sheets. I was able to bend the binding enough to get the book to lay flat and found that the pages lines up very well and I didn't lose any of the picture into the binding itself.What was weird for me is the smell of the book. I can only think that it is the ink and/or the paper but I had several individuals smell it and we all said it was reminiscent of mildew. I've bought inexpensive paperback books in the past with the same odor and I have never been able to figure out what it is. It is not mildew but it kind of smells like it. The smell is present inside and also on the cover. If you are sensitive to scent, you may want to take this into consideration.I tested my coloring tools: all markers bleed through though Staedler triplus fineliners merely left a shadow of color rather than full ink – but you could tell what the color was from the back of the page. Gel pens did not leak through but again, there was a very light shadow. The paper did well with various coloring pencils.In the end, the fact that ink could leak through and the pages were printed doubled sided was enough for me to take away a point. It forces me into coloring pencils of losing part of the book. I wish the book had perforated paper but I don't detract for that. The odor – well, that may be only a few books, so again, I won't take away for that but do check to see if yours has a similar smell.

So I am a self-proclaimed Harry Potter nerd, so when I heard about these coloring books I immediately pre-ordered them ALL. Now I did get this a little late, a couple days after the release date but that was okay with me I didn't absolutely need it that day. This coloring book is made of super high-quality paper (I'd say about 28lb) and gold embellishments make this more "grown up". There are color pictures towards the end that you can use for reference if you need to. I counted 82 coloring pages and 16 color pages, although I may be off by a page or two. There is a good variety of pattern coloring and portrait coloring. Overall I am so impressed and this is the perfect gift for any potter-heads you know :)

I purchased this Harry Potter Coloring Book for my adult daughter, who is one of the biggest Harry Potter fans out there, of this I am sure. She has pretty much memorized each of the books, she has listened and re-listened to them on CD so many times and read and re-read them several times as well. While she was very excited to receive this coloring book and the illustrations are not bad, it definitely is not up to snuff with a lot of the very nice adult coloring books out there, though the price is in line with them. That being said, with the pictures more simple than some of the coloring books, it is easier for her to actually complete coloring a picture while her children are napping or after they are in bed and it provides lovely relaxing coloring therapy for her, and then allowing her more time for her other more necessary chores. It’s fun for her to color the familiar people and objects and she has enjoyed it very much. Besides using it for her “me” time, she will also color with her little ones; she, in her book, they in theirs. The pages in this book are medium paper and the pictures are on both sides, so you do need to watch what you color with. Pencils are best. Gel pens will likely leave indentations on the other side of the picture.

This was a gift to my wife. It is a young adult - adult coloring book. Probably not as useful for small children due to the very small detail work in the book. However that's what makes it a 5 star item - it gets its target audience and has images that are detailed, take time to complete, and are very in tune with images from the movies, illustrations from the books, and descriptions from the text of the book (all info as-per my wife).It meets her expectations, and for 10 dollars, the value is there due to the time to complete a page and the number of pages.The paper is thicker than traditional coloring books for children and lends itself to the coloring. You do not imprint on pages below unless you really press hard on the page. My wife doesn't remove pages from the book but she indicated it would be easy to do without hurting the binding of the book. However she said it did not have perforations to assist in page removal. Again though, she insisted that for an adult coloring book it would not be a desirable trait.Overall she is very happy with this gift and the quality of the product.

I spent a few days last year in the part of Missouri where the book is set, as my husband lived there as a child. One of my husband's boyhood friends and his wife, who are from that area, recently visited us. The wife told me her book club had read Winter's Bone, and it was she who recommended it to me. Woodrell's ear for dialog is wonderful. I love how he can make the speech of semi-educated people sound realistic while making it clear that many of them have an intelligence that enables them to get through situations most college graduates couldn't handle. I don't think it is easy to write in that voice and somehow still have descriptions be so beautiful and accurate. The song "A Country Boy Can Survive" as sung by Hank Williams, Jr., kept running through my head.

This is a short book, but every single word is perfect. The prose is so exquisitely written by author Daniel Woodrell that it seems poetic. All you have to do is read the words and you will feel the bitter cold, hear the crunch of snow and sense in your very soul the underlying foreboding of the plot. The language, which is rough and profane at times, will utterly transport you to the Ozarks. The people are utterly poor. Meth labs bloom. Men speak with bullets as much as with words. This is a rough, tough place. But the words in the book! They are not only profound, but also elegiac.Ree Dolly is 16 with an adult's worries. Her mama is insane and rocks by the fire muttering inanities. Her much younger brothers depend on her for their very survival. And her daddy has fled to who knows where. Then Ree finds out that her father has placed the rickety old house in which they live as bond. If he doesn't show up for his court date in a week, Ree will lose the house—and that is truly all they have. It's winter in the Ozarks. They will not survive long without the house. So against all odds, Ree goes on a quest to find her daddy. But there is evil out there, and she can feel it in the shadows watching her.This is an absolutely mesmerizing story that fully pulls in the reader to this raw, primitive world, and that is precisely why it is so very, very good.

Winter's Bone starts with a deadbeat dad who puts his family on the line to jump bail and a mother who has had something happen and lost her marbles. It's up too 16 year old Ree to keep things in order and food on the table.Dad is supposed to show for his hearing or the family loses their home among other things. So Ree sets out to locate him. It isn't a hunt, just Ree going around house to house in the valley. And she hits some roadblocks. People are tight lipped and protective of something. On more than one occasion Ree is offered drugs and physically assulted (too much for a child) over the simplest things. I guess the drugs show character? There are too many closed mouths and doors for the family sticks together mantra that the book keeps portraying. But people come around eventually and Ree and her siblings get the answers they need but not necessarily want and life goes on. The book isn't very suspenseful but the plot is good. It was a simple read that I finished in one sitting.

We have all read books that we didn't want to end, I believe. This was one of those. It is a relatively short book, riveting, very hard to put down (at least for me) and the author obviously has roots in the Ozarks because the language at times is so colloquial that it seems foreign. But--a little like reading Shakespeare--after reading awhile the speech patterns make perfect sense. At the tender age of 16, the character of Ree is astonishing and surprising in her strength and resilience. The life she lives daily has forced her to grow up hard and fast. I have not seen the movie but will definitely see it now. I always prefer to read the book before seeing the movie and will be interested to see how closely the movie follows the book. This is definitely one of those books that make me absolutely love reading.

Winter's Bone is Homeric, but then what great tale is not Homeric? Heroes in search of themselves like Achilles or other heroes like Odysseus searching to come home. Woodrell's language is Homeric. The descriptive passages and the metaphors and similes are poetic, and they reek of time and place, not the heroic age of bronze, but the rocky vernacular of the Ozarks. This is beautiful story telling and glorious writing.But Woodrell also turns the Odyssey on its head. The very ballsy 17 yr old girl Ree, beset by threats of the loss of her estate owing to her father's absence, mirrors the somewhat immature and effeminate post-pubescent Telemachus of the Odyssey, each desperately needing their wandering father back in their lives. Each need affirmation. Telemachus travels on his own odyssey to get information about the Odysseus from the great Mycenaean kings and potentates who might know something of him, he learns who he is in the end. and meets his father in a reunion as warrior. Ree knows who she is, a Dolly, and she must dodge imperative clan prohibitions to ascertain, first that her father is dead for sure, and then confront his killers, at great risk to herself, to get proof that he is dead to satisfy his bondsmen and regain her material security and establish herself as head of her family, without going to be a warrior. Each figure has a mentor. Telemachus has Mentor who is Athena in disguise. Ree has her uncle Teardrop. Teardrop is a much more powerful figure than Homer's goddess. And we know that he will carry on the vendetta.

Awesome book! Got one for a friend's son and I'm going to get one for myself even though I know a lot about architecture. This is a book for all ages and all levels.

It is much smaller in person. Kind of a mini book, but the content is very cool.

This book was purchased as a gift. It looked interesting.
