While I do believe strongly in the teaching of Gary Chapman this study guild and leader guild are a waste of time.1. This study has NOTHING to do with The Marriage You've Always Wanted books. If you want to have your group read the book and do the study at the same time, don't even try. You can't make them tie together2. All the video clips are taken from the 5 Love Languages and not The Marriage You've Always Wanted.3. The leader guild might be the worst small group book we have used yet. You have no way of knowing what is different in your leader guild than in the study guild that the rest of your group is looking at. The leader guild will recommend you to say something (as your own thought) but they wrote it in the study guild as well so your group has already read what you are saying. The only way to avoid this was to sit with both the leader guild and the study guild as we did the class so I could make sure I didn't suggest something stupid. Ex. In the leader guild it will say "If no one in your group mentions it you should mention......" and then it tells you what to say. But it says nothing about the fact that it says the same thing word for word in the groups study book...so why one earth would you need to say it unless your group can't read or you didn't order the books!4. He tells you NOTHING in the video that's not in the bookIf you got the leader guild and didn't get the study guilds for your group it might be a better experience but you don't need both.

The content is fine, but Amazon does not inform the buyer on the information screen that this workbook is meant to be used in conjunction with a series a videos. It would have been helpful to know that because our small group was purchasing it to use along with the book, "The Marriage You've Always Wanted", so we are returning all of the workbooks that we purchased because we wish to work through the book and do not have the video series.

Awesome group study. We co-facilitated with another family from our church. It helped us all out greatly! Great follow-up to the 5 love languages book or study, although, not important to do those first. This covers a great deal of topics in marriage without getting too personal in conversations in the group. Strengthened our marriage and many others who attended our classes. We thought it was extremely important to do a study like this is this time in our lives and in this culture!!!

This material will take any good marriage and make it a Great Marriage!! Gary uses humor to make his lessons on improving your Marriage seem so down to earth,and easy to apply in any Marriage.

Really disappointed that I spent $40 on this item and didn't look at it until it was too late to return it. Not much there, preachy and I actually got a lot more out of the PDF on Love Languages that I got off the internet for free. Wish I could get my money back.

My wife and I do marriage mentoring through our church. We first purchased a copy of this book for ourselves at one of Gary Chapman's marriage conferences. We were so impressed with Dr. Chapman and his book that we buy a copy for each of our mentoree couples as a wedding present. It is a wonderful resource for couples at any stage of their marriage.

Overall, Russ Olsen's Eloquent Ruby is a good book. I feel that the book would be fantastic for anyone coming to Ruby with an in-depth knowledge of another programming language.My main reason for giving it four stars instead of five is that this edition is a bit dated (it focuses on Ruby 1.9) and the content while broad in scope is not as in depth as I'd hoped for. Also, it should be noted that Eloquent Ruby is written more like a reference book than a "how-to" or textbook (ie - while Russ Olsen does offer real world examples at the end of chapters, this book is not written with the express purpose of teaching you how to code using the Ruby programming language, or giving you multiple or one large scale "project" to work through with the authors guidance).

After you have gotten down the basics of Ruby syntax this is the next step. Much of the ruby community I've found likes to talk about the esthetics of the code. They not only want to write good working code but want it to be beautiful. When I first got into Ruby I asked a senior programmer about style and his answer was to read the ruby discussion lists and I would eventually pick it up. I did not, this may be a reflection on me but after six months of trying to wrap my head around Ruby I was still just not getting what I considered weird rubyisms. Much of this book is about explaining style and why your actually writing better code when you do things the ruby way. It's about using the somewhat unusual features of the language to build better working code. It also spends a fair amount of text explaining the dangers of each feature and how best to mitigate danger while still keeping the power.

i'm a web and middle-tier developer with a strong background in c# and java and have been teaching myself ruby for about a year now (in the hopes of soon building rails apps.) I started w/ (extremely utilitarian, but extremely dry) "the ruby programming laguage" (flanagan, matsumoto) and that was a good way to get familiar with syntax and basic structure (and is a great tool to have on the shelf), but i often found myself scratching my head while sifting through code on github (which is a quick way to get really really confused if you're new to ruby) ...this book elucidates A LOT of the basic ruby-isms that i've encountered in the wild and really helped me build some foundation. a basic, but useful, intro to blocks, metaprogramming, and many other ruby-isms. a must-have for those learning, and/or looking to solidify their ruby.

This is a truly wonderful book. I wouldn't recommend it to people who don't know the basics or have a solid understanding of the core API (the author doesn't either, in fact he says so in the "Who is this book for" block). However, if you've got the basics down and wish to polish your code and/or learn a some interesting techniques to making your life easier when writing, I'd highly recommend this book. The author explains everything in clear to-the-point way instead of dancing around the point with pages of filler. It's a long read if you're going cover to cover but it's well worth it.

Fantastic writing, the perfect deep dive for experienced programmers who are new-ish to Ruby. I wish all programming languages had introductions this lovely and wise.The Kindle version could be a little bit easier to read, but the material is top-notch.

I enjoyed reading this book, and found it to be a useful adjunct to other learning materials. The technical content is very clearly presented, with just the right amount of detail to get the point across, and not much more. The author's tone is somewhat light-hearted, without being cloyingly jocular. Where the book differs from most tutorials is that it focuses on teaching Ruby that is not just "correct", but also idiomatic. I now understand better how, for example, Rails is able to work its various "magic" using various Ruby idioms. That said, I'm not entirely comfortable with the enthusiasm with which the author embraces some of Ruby's "magical" capabilities. I wonder how easy it might be to get carried away with some of these idioms and end up writing a bunch of difficult-to-understand, difficult-to-maintain code. However, insofar as this sort of jazz is part of idiomatic Ruby, I suppose the author is fulfilling his mandate by promoting it; so I hesitate to deduct a star just on account of my own scruples here. On the whole, I recommend this book - especially if you are coming from a more traditional object-oriented language (C++, Java) - and have yet to appreciate just how flexible (sometimes worryingly so) Ruby really is.

I am delighted with the intended audience of this book not for a novice or ruby newbie but for some one who understands the basic syntax of ruby but doesn't get all the rubyisms. Unlike the bulky books like ruby way which are in the same light, this books takes a pragmatic approach. Not much philosophy and details but to the point descriptions.Every chapter has something new that I vaguely know but don't completely understand, for instance symbols vs strings. And yes I am confused between the two and exactly as the author predicted I was trying to overwrite a hash symbol with its string equivalent. I am still 1/4 way but I am positive that this will be a great $30 investment.

I love that this book explains very well what makes Ruby programming feel like Ruby. The author does a great job describing everything from coding standards (tabs vs spaces, naming conventions) that are common in Ruby and to more important features that are new to Ruby developers (like modifying classes at runtime, method_missing, blocks/procs/lambdas) in a very pragmatic way.I would definitively recommend this book to any newcomers to Ruby that have already written a few Ruby programs. Don't make this your first book in Ruby/programming. This book does not give you an intro to Ruby, but rather, as the name implies, how to write eloquent Ruby assuming you know how to program.

Stacy is kind, kid friendly, has a sense of adventure, and loves animals - I'll happily let my kiddo watch her YouTube videos and was happy to buy this for her.Well, it arrived yesterday and in just a couple of hours, my daughter had finished the book. This one took her a tiny bit longer to read simply because she kept stopping to tell me what Stacy was doing in the book and talking all about the funny quirks of the wolves. The book arrived yesterday and my 10 year old loves it! She read the entire book last night and is already asking when the next one will be out. Stacy inspired my daughter so much that she spent half of today writing her own book. One thing I really appreciate about Stacy is that she works hard to make quality content that is age appropriate. What an amazing book! I love that you tied in your YouTube channel to this wonderful channel. My daughter, who is 9, just loves you! And because of that, I do too. I have four children, all with different tastes in books, games, hobbies and sports. I watch what they watch, I read what they read and I play what they play.....I have personally followed your channel because my daughter has asked me to, but now, this has extended our time together from watching you Minecraft to now spending time reading about your adventures! When is book #2 coming out? Highly recommended for parents and children!

I loved this book soooo much. It was so addicting and couldn't stop reading it. I was so extra and i love it. It had a dictionary at the back, had a real interview of a person who works with wolves, and it had pictures! Not many books these days have pictures anymore. This was a great book and would read it again.

My daughter says," I was on the edge of my seat reading, I can't wait for book 2 to come out. Reading Wild Rescuers: Guardians of the Tiga made me feel as if I was there alongside the wolves. I loved reading it!"

This review is for the Kindle version of this book. I haven't seen the print version.I need to split this into two sections; one for the overall content and one for the design and layout.As far as knowledge content goes this book is a great primer on locks, how they function and the mechanisms and tools employed for bypassing them. Deviant has a wonderful talent for taking technical knowledge and delivering it in a conversational tone that makes it easy to understand and retain. I've seen others try and share the same information and it just falls flat. On that level alone, this book gets five stars.Where layout and formatting is concerned, the book needs some serious help. It looks as though the rough draft was approved for publication. The irregular fashion in which images and notations are inserted into the flow of text and the seemingly random sized boxes used to separate them looks jarring and amateurish.I don't understand why he chose to use greyscale versions of his lock diagrams. I've seen the slide presentations where they were originally used and in full color, they very clearly differentiate the components of the lock and allow for highlighting and directing the reader's focus to the pertinent portion of the image. In greyscale, they lose virtually all of their impact. The inclusion of a single color image (Figure 3.7) is a horrible tease and I wonder why it was included.As for the photography, many of the photos used have blown out contrast to the point of rendering the image barely usable. It's likely because they were converted from color to greyscale as well, but that's just a guess.Overall, this book is an amazing resource. I've seen most of the information in various sources before but Deviant has pulled together all of the basics (and then some) into a single location and presents it all in a very user friendly fashion. I just wish some more thought/time/effort was devoted to the design and layout of the book. In it's current form, it's a lead-off stand-up double. Clean it up and fix the design issues and it's a walk-off home run.

Practical Lock PickingThe author does a fantastic job at covering the fundamentals of lock picking. He breaks it down into simple components and concepts, and then steps it up to cover advanced techniques and various anti-tampering lock designs. The one complaint I have is that while there are numerous diagrams to help you visualize the lock designs, pins, etc... you have to physically practice to get a better understanding. Some of the diagrams didn't make sense to a beginner, but after reading the book, the basics are all in there and it is a matter of developing practical experience and knowledge. What I got out of this book was that for every wild and crazy lock design intended to prevent tampering, there is a key or a way to get past it.Overall: 4/5 stars

I have seen lock picking in movies my whole life and always believed it was one of those movie magic gimmicks but this book clearly shows you how easy it really is to pick most American style locks. The diagrams and explanations could be followed by a child. After reading this book I immediately started investigating replacing all the locks in my life with high end Abloy locks. Too bad those locks are so expensive (but almost impossible for most people to crack). As it is now, I feel like my house is totally insecure with the regular locks on my house like everyone else house.

The book is well written, very informative, very easy to understand, and a fun read to boot. Since I picked up this book I've been getting better and better at lock picking. Great introduction to the skill. Would recommend for anyone interested in lock picking.

Having sat through an instructional course given by Deviant at a prior conference, I was enthused to hear that he was writing his own book. Ollam has great patience and a very friendly instructional manner that helps set many people at ease as they learn the frustration of lock picking.The book structure is well put together and eases people through the process, allowing for readers to jump in at the appropriate location for their skill set. Lock picking is a purely practical science, so the inclusion of graphics and images were well needed, and greatly appreciated. What really makes the book is the included disk that includes all of the book figures, in color, as well as animated figures and videos from past training sessions. Reading the book while having the disk contents open next to you allow you to quickly read the content, reference the animated figures, and then try them out for yourself before moving on.Overall, excellent structure and presentation. This is a must-buy.

I own the Kindle version of this book. It really is wonderfully written, very clear and concise. This book helped me understand not only the basics of how locks work, but how and why they can be defeated through basic lockpicking. It is definitely a go-to book for someone new to picking locks, and is a good reference for those who have been doing it for a while. I recommend it to all, and look forward to the 2nd edition.

Practical Lock Picking: A Physical Penetration Tester's Training Guide by Deviant Ollam is the "go to" resource for lock picking. It is an awesome informative manual that anybody who is interested in lock picking should read. I've been picking locks for over 30 years & I still learned from this book. I highly recommend it!!

This book is for everyone interested in lock picking!!! From the absolute beginner knowing nothing about locks, keys, or how they work to the Experts. From hobbists to professionals. Even having a solid foundation of lock picking knowledge this book still presents information in a way that will keep you interested and reading along. A masterful work!
